can anyone tell me what the port does

This is USB B 3.0, monitor probably came with a cable for it and the monitor probably has some USB ports on it somewhere.

The purpose of this port is to connect your PC to it, so the extra USB ports on it function as a hub.

i recently picked up the asus pq258q and found this on the back io ports never had a monitor that has this before can anyone tell me what it does

master and slave HDD.. Are you talking about IDE?

This is just a USB connection on the back of a monitor to supply data to a USB hub, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

I guess you could call it an upstream port.. But that is just unnecessary information.

You find these ports on devices usually, so like USb 3.0 hubs/docks etc... but also things like printers, monitors, NAS boxes and so on.
