Is a complete switch to Linux smart?

So I have been on and off with Linux for some time now but I am being troubled so often by Windows that I want to switch completely. 

6GB ram,
i3-6157U 2.4Ghz
128 GB ssd
1 TB HDD

So I on my hdd are all my personal files. is there a way to install linux in a way that I can maintain all my files on that disk but also set it as my location for music, video's, documents, but still save programs to my ssd. 

I do very light video editing in premiere pro, browsing the net, I use Unity every now and then to work on a small game project and some very light casual games.

Is it smart to switch to Linux completely? My main worry has alway's been my file management and video editing as premiere pro is not available for Linux. I am already somewhat familiar to Linux.

Personally I find dual booting to be the best solution until Linux suits all your needs, windows kicking around somewhere just in case but only for the software you can't access yet on Linux.

Yes, just install Linux to your SSD as you would do with Windows; then, make symlinks from your home folder to folders on that HDD, e.g.:

ln -s /hdd/mount/point/Pictures ~/Pictures

this way anything you save to the Pictures folder in your home will actually be stored on the HDD.

 

If you care about the data on the HDD you should make a backup before attempting this, things can go wrong when you install and OS.

All of this can be done on Linux, you can use kdenlive for video editing.

It depends on what you do and how much you are willing to learn/relearn.

Yeah, Ive done it for 3 years. I still kept a Windows machine on my gaming desktop for Witcher 3 until a year or two ago but since i live away from home on college campus, my Linux laptop has been the only operating system I used for the past 3 years pretty much. 

 

Everything I do for school and entertainment can be done on it. This includes java development for programming classes, MySQL for database classes, R/Matlab/Maple for statistics, calculus, differential equations classes, steam for games, chromium for porn and shit. 

 

I initially try to use linux to keep me away from video games addiction, well, that didn't work out since quite a bit of my steam library can be play on Linux and sometimes I torrent Windows games and run them with wine.
