There's a set of criteria that Microsoft uses to determine if your system can receive the upgrade or not over Windows Update. However nothing's stopping you from upgrading manually.

Yeah, I'm doing that now.

I traced the rays!  I traced them all!  At 7 ~ 15 fps I traced 'em good!

Ok, here's the situation, Q2RT at 1080p is barely playable and not exactly enjoyable because the input lag is pretty severe. Movement is actually very smooth and so are the graphics, it just apparently takes too long to process all the rays which creates long frame times. Dropping down to 720p makes it fully playable, but it becomes quite blurry and painful for the eyes as a result. given GTX 1070 has a lot less grunt than GTX 1080Ti I think your only bet is 720p. You may try 1080p but I can assure you it won't be a pleasant experience gameplay wise. It's smooth enough for a walk through though and to observe the world.

Alrighty, I am back with GTX 1070 performance. Or lack thereof. I had to play in 720x480 to get 60 frames per second, and since I use a 1440p monitor, that pretty much looked like Quake 2 as seen through Jello. At 720p, I was around 20-30 FPS (playable, but not really a great FPS experience when input lag is involved), and 1080p was measured in seconds per frame. 1440p resulted in a crash.

However, even at 720p the lighting and shadow effects could be clearly seen. Raytracing in person is definitely a cooler effect than I thought it'd be, but it isn't enough to sell me a new GPU. Buying this sweet 1440p 144 Hz monitor for the esports games I play was definitely a better use of $600 than a 1080 Ti or RTX 2070 IMO (I was on 1080p before). And my 1070 is still holding up really well, so I don't plan on upgrading any time soon.

However, I hope this widespread DXR support means indie devs take up the mantle of making it more usable for non-AAA games. There's definitely some room for creativity here now that this is enabled, and more limited implementations could lead to some neat effects even on midrange hardware like mine.

I have a 1660Ti, downloading all the demo's now and will try em at 1080p/1440p.

As much as I have been looking forward to DRX for my 1660ti I don't actually have any games to use it with, so the demo's will be my only time experiencing the amazing world of raytracing.

God I hate the new stormtrooper design.

And M4 stocks on the blasters look stupid.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Reflections Demo on 1660Ti (No OC)

At 1440p I got around 6-7fps | 1440p Imgur

At 1080p I got around 11-12fps | 1080p Imgur

Also not sure if what's up, but the edges on the commander's armor plates look really awful(?)

And the film grain IMO just ruins any nice sexy graphics from the DRX anyway....

sidenote: This game kept launching my steamVR for no reason, even with steam off and no headset attached

I do have an RTX 2080 Ti, at 1080p it's cruising at 48fps@20ms, is it locked? task manager doesn't seems to show anything running at full load.

Specs: Motherboard: Asus X470-PLUS TUF gaming (Yes I know it's poor but I wasn't informed) RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE® LPX DDR4 3200Mhz CL16-18-18-36 2x8GB

under the GPU section in task manager try cycle through all the options as it only displays 5/6 default ones, could be the RTX cores are running at max and thats bottlenecking

Atomic Heart Demo on a 1660Ti (No OC)

This one actually ran a bit nicer, but had some drops here and there

At 1440p I got around 12-15fps, But one or two areas had it dip to 8fps and the "good" areas had it at 18fps | 1440p Album

At 1080p I got around 20-24fps, The same areas had it dip to 12fps and some had it run around 28fps | 1080p Album

1440p actually had some screen-tearing for me, but 1080p was fine.

Also this game looks amazing, looking forward to it even without DRX on!

sidenote: Nvidia mentioned there will be different levels of ray-tracing for us, which these demo's dont allow us to change or even see. Curious if this is all on High and what we would get on lowish? perhaps a somewhat playable fps?

Justice MMO Demo on a 1660Ti (No OC)

1080p On - 15-20fps in most area's, 30ish in the areas with less rendering.

1080p Off - 55-60 pretty much all around.

1440p On - 12-15fps in most area's, 20-22fps in areas where not as much was being rendered (close ups, looking at the sky).

1440p Off - Bit weird and jumped a lot but around 35-45fps in most areas (sometimes jumping to 60ish), easily 60 in the areas with less rendering.

Some On v Off photos if you want to compare

Shadow of the Tomb raider results with 1060 6 gb @ 1080P

Raytracing set to lowest, it is actually playable - ingame the fps is a descent amount higher then in the benchmark. for details see atached images.

I had to force Vsync off as I noticed it on,. and it gave me a little bit more back from the Nvidia demos.

Manually changed in NV control panels 3D settings, either for each program added manually or just set it globally for the test runs and revert later.

You can also use Port Royale to go under 1080p, say 900p and so on.. and have a gander.
