IS MY DELL 0JJW8N COMPATIBLE WITH A CORE 2 QUAD

So I was thinking of upgrading from my crappy Pentium e6300 and getting a core 2 quad q6600. However I am not sure if my Dell 0JJW8N is compatible with. PLS HELP.

I found a lot of the dells from this time cut down on power delivery for lower end models, for example the inspiron 530 came with a quad core option, but the dual core motherboard (of the same P/N and model!) was missing slightly different and wasn't actually capable of running the quad core, despite dell indicating it could. Must have saved them 30 cents a unit. 

So I'd be extra careful, even if everything indicates you can. Just because it's socket 775 and maybe other models with the same motherboard model did means nothing.

usually not locked down in the bios, at least if you stick with the same generation you don't run into problems- but there's no updates to extend support for the same socket like consumer boards.

Dell's will do that. I have worked on a few (specifically Foxconn boards), where they are definitely quad core supported but BIOS locked down (and any attempt to re-flash the BIOS with a stock one is to gets you told off by Dell's BIOS security for an unsigned BIOS)

one of the problems you'd run into here is the I/O shield is attachced, you'd have to go all jank and cut a hole. Also old motherboards can be expensive sometimes, depends on what you're getting, sometimes more than they were new.

Anything outside of those I doubt. 

At that point, I'd just get a new used machine, there's a lot of dell optiplex towers that businesses dump on ebay, in the 100$ neighborhood you'd get a quad core i5 or i7 that's either sandy or ivy. Slap a 25$ SSD in there and it's a good machine. Get a regular tower not a thin one so you can put full height cards in there.

Can confirm, I had an OptiPlex 760 that didn't support quads, but there was a very slightly different board revision that did.

If you really want to cut a hole, non prebuilt motherboards that have wide support are enspsive. Cheapest option is to get a motherboard pulled from a prebuilt. To ensure comparability, look for one that comes with a core 2 quad, like this one. They often pull and sell the 2 together. 

Obviously there's probably cheaper options. You'll need a micro ATX size. 

I still strongly suggest getting a used sandy or ivy system. Core 2 is long out of date, and has a lot of trouble running stuff, but sandy and ivy bridge still run a lot of newer games very well.

In a lot of cases I've found that the bios did support it but the motherboard itself was cut down on power delivery, sometimes without revision numbers in the model numbers that did come with better build options. Since it was the same MB just missing a few parts it was easier just to use the same bios. If you're shipping something with a 30w cpu why build it like the 50w option? That's like a waste of capacitors and shit man.

yah, I think it's time. Look at those optiplex options or similar computers used b enterprise customers if you're looking to save a buck. There are games that a core 2 quad simply wont run that a sandy i3 will.
