Apple May Not Have 5G Phone Until 2021

Also Qualcomm obviously doesn’t want Apple as a client so Apple has been forced to start production on their own modems. Intel can’t supply the volume that Apple needs alone.

Who cares?  Seriously.  Actual 5G will only be in a few cities by then anyway, and high bandwidth streaming won't matter anyway since phones won't care about 4k content with the size of screens…tablets may, perhaps, but those are still a much smaller market.

As I have already pointed out, it's already active in 6 cities in Australia and the system is about to go live to consumers within a month or two.

 

This is not something we will be just starting to see in 2021, the system is already on and the first half of this year is expected to see multiple 5g Devices on sale to consumers.

I don't know why everyone is in such a rush for 5g phones. Unless you live in a big city it's going to be so long before we get 5g

Not sure if you were around for the deployment of 4G or not. It took a hell of a long time for it to reach outside of big cities.

Maybe it did where you are.  But the fact is we have 6 cities with 5g already, which is not the "only 2 cities will have it in 2021" that people are claiming.

No it will be in more than 2 cities. A few more than 30 in 2019 is what Verizon is aiming for.

 

I live in a thriving industrial area in Michigan and it was probably 4 years after LTE was in NYC and Chicago and the such that we got it. 

 

We aren't the biggest market but FAR from the smaller markets. 

 

2021 is probably on par if not early for wide spread 5g

It's probably also not fair to compare Australia and the US on this type of tech.  Australia are generally earlier than most countries to implement new tech.

If only they could get something beyond bad cellular pay per small data use internet to where my relatives live in a thriving coastal town in eastern Aus.

5G isn’t really 5G right now and the later version of LTE are actually faster than current 5G so it’s going to be awhile until we even see 5G having any benefit

as a person who is very familiar with how RF effects the human body at various frequencies and power, you will not see me holding one of these devices anywhere near my Central Nervous System. I would like to see 5G used as a rural high speed internet service instead.

i understand that, but it's capacity and throughput would be more beneficial than 4G for rural customers without access to traditional cable/DSL/Fiber broadband.

5G is nothing as of now. It will likely take till 2021 or later to even get a decent 5G network up. SHIT I think in 2021 is when the TV broadcasters in my area have to vacate 600 Mhz for T Mobile. And seeing how 600 Mhz is going to be used in T Mobiles 5G network, I dont really think 5G is going to matter yet. Also its not clear how carriers will handle 5G. I mean what kind of speeds will we see in the real world? What kind of range and pentration power? Caps, Throttling, deprotiziation? How will they handle hotspot data (Lowish caps like they do on 4G)? Until the questions are answered 5G is just there. Kinda like Docsis 3.1 Full Duplex, the standard exists but no one really is pushing what it can do. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Huh, weird, I'd have thought AUS would be in the same boat as Canada regarding cellular upgrades, but this is good to know, although it means nothing if you don't live in a metropolitan area. The irony here is that AUS is so far behind on wireline broadband (aka the network "upgrade" that is NBN) it's not funny.
