stupid question about network switches

Mercuryaces

My house is wired with ethernet, in my bedroom I have one jack but I need more. If I install a switch there it will do just that, correct?

If you add a switch, then all ports share a single (assuming gigabit) line, to get to the router/switch at the other end. So assuming you don't need gigabit for each device it should be OK, just be aware that if you're using some other ports for streaming etc, that you may experience some bottlenecking, depending on what you're doing of course.
