I fucked up...

WolfDeville

Yesterday for some stupid reason I decided to unplug my H115 from the CPU_OPT header on my motherboars and plug it into the cpu fan header while it was powered on. The system locked up and not even the reset button would work. I turned it off from the power and turned it back on and it does nothing. I get error code 00 on the motherboard and after googling I've come to the conclusion that either the cpu or motherboard died. I tried the usual stuff, cleared CMOS, left the battery out and flashed the BIOS, none of it worked... However, I left it for a few hours, came back and turned it on and finally it posted! Then it died again and giving the same error.... Anyone have any ideas?

have you disassembled the entire thing and put it back together? including removing the cpu from its socket? if that doesn't work you most likely shorted your board.

Yep multiple times. I found a short on the back of the header and cleaned it up, the header still provides power to the pump and everyone powers up but it just will not post

While powered on, or while off?

Are you asking if I messed with the plug while powered on? Yea I did because I'm a dumb shit :/

When you say there was a short on the back? How? Solder, or screw loose?

Solder. There was like a gunk buildup on the pins so i gently scraped it off with a plastic tool you use for repairing phones

Then is the motherboard out of warranty? :/ As the evidence is gone now for a warranty claim.

Scraping is not the best way, it can help fault finding, but making sure the solder is reflowed is usually best.

Possibly just a fuse/transistor blown. But fault finding that is beyond my expertise.

Warranty ran out about 3 and a half years ago anyway

Before I buy another motherboard, does anyone think its possible that the CPU died instead of the motherboard or both?
