Motherboard / CPU Recommendations

Hello! 

I am looking for a motherboard and possibly CPU

SuperMicro, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI are all good IMO

I currently have a FX-6300 and am happy with the performance along with a 7970. 

 

I am looking for ATX to go in a Define R4

Power supply is not an issue, would prefer single 8 pin EPS rather than 2 8 pins, not a big deal though.

I would prefer to use DDR3 ECC Ram, more ram support the bettter

Intel and AMD are fair game

Corsair H100i, so standard mounting is ideal and single CPU

 

On a budget, so used hardware is good

Willing to trade some hardware

{H100i, if dual cpus etc. 16gb ram, 8gb ram, FX-6300 and GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ } < trade?

 

Really looking to keep case, psu ssds and replace the guts with "new" cpu(s) and ram. Ideally dual standard socket so I can continue to use my cooler, then add a cpu later.

Just to clarify: You want new MOBO, CPU and RAM?

 

I would recommend a move to DDR4, since your CPU and MOBO upgrade paths will require that. If you're a good bargain shopper, it shouldn't break the bank. 

 

The Ryzen upgrade path is a solid idea, since the chipset will be supported until 2020, and your RAM will last you AT LEAST until then. You could wait for the new gen to drop (good idea.) or you could look for hot deals as people sell their stuff to prepare for it (probably also good idea!)

ECC DDR4 is kinda pricey due to it still being used in the enterprise and data center.

Dual socket motherboards and CPUs that support DDR4 are relatively new.

Looking for 1366 time period and newer. I have seen some motherboards and Cpu combos on ebay without coolers of coarse.

16gb stick is ~$20 ddr3 vs $100 ddr4

How about a I7 4930K? It's still ddr3 but not ecc compatible

I would really prefer ECC and don't need overclocking. I never bothered over clocking my FX-6300

I would like to get a board with PCIe 3.0 though for 10gb nic and 10gbps USB 3.1 gen 2
