Sliding phones, motorized parts, etc are all susceptible to mechanical failure, dust/sand ingress, and waterproofing issues.

They are horrible solutions for an EDC device.

Having a screen on the back and no selfie cam is a major inconvenience having to turn the phone around literally every time you want to take a pic.

Most people on this forum wouldn't understand that since I assume most of you don't take selfies, but I know many people that will take 10+ in the span of a minute for snapchat or whatever, and having to flip the phone just sucks, especially if you want to just take a discrete picture of yourself.

Linus is probably just trying to be different from all the other reviewers by complaining about the hole punch, when in fact it is a big improvement over a notch, and is still a better solution than moving parts or secondary displays.

Until cameras can be put underneath the display, a hole is the best solution.

you need to tap on the screen not hold it for that long for the fingerprint to work faster and you don't have to wake up the phone to unlock, it works even when the screen is off.

I got a S10 (regular) March 9th and I really love the Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor!

I used to think the Ultrasonic FP sensor was VERY slow - like you said in the video.
About 5 days ago, I tried to remove the screen transistion effect (biometrics preferences) and registrer my finger again. It works 90% of the time and I litterally can just tap the display and it unlocks, when it works. :)

The FP sensor is actually - in my experience - way better than my old phone - which was a Galaxy S7 Edge and my iPad Pro 9.7'' (touch id gen 1).
I have the Exynos version of the S10 and love it.

HOLYF@$K It Works!

Samsung made unlocking the phone slower with an animation! OMFG that is dumb.

Thanks for the tip!

Between saving my right thumb 4 times at 4 different angles, and now this, it seems pretty good.

@CPotter Make a video on this! The People must know about turning off 'screen transition effect'!

Phones cant even be sold locked in Canada, and afaik they should not lock after a sim card installation either. My S9 should not be locked to my carrier for instance. Edit: Perhaps he was sent US phones?

Also, hopefully Linus realizes that Samsung Display is pretty much the top dog and probably supplied some panels for those "notchless" phones. The reason they havent adopted a pop out camera is for the exact reaction everyone had at first to those phones "oh that's going to break so easily". Additionally they are developing screens that will have the cameras under the display, this just leads up to that.

The way he complains about it makes it seem like the typical apple normie that screams "apple did the notch first!" as if samsung doesn't make the notched displays (also essential did it first). He should know how these thigns turn out. Samsung display could have easily supplied oled with no cut out, the cut out is actually new technology.

Cool, an IP68 proofed headphone jack. I've only been using a phone with that for TWO AND A HALF YEARS.

I realize you tried  as hard as you could to create an edgy review for an otherwise universally acclaimed phone, but your point about the Chinese slider phones being better than the hole punch and notch is a very hard sell IMO.

Besides the issues with it being a mechanical part subject to failure, the phones are not water resistant, and they are very difficult to use with cases. Also you complain about how slow the fingerprint sensor is, but the face unlock on that one oppo phone that had to slide up to face unlock is even slower.

I am happy Samsung never did the notch and think what they have now is a good hold over until they are able to get the camera sensor under the display without having to have a hole in the display.

Exactly. The "solution" to the notch is to... just add a little bit of bezel to the top and bottom. Wow. Amazing. No need to compromise the structural integrity of the phone or add another point of failure to provide a "solution" for a problem that shouldn't exist.

It's almost like consumers are stupid and are being manipulated by marketing into thinking that they actually want this.

So was Linus a numpty in this video making him a hypocrite?

Reality check, reasons why things that we like don't get done: Price, if it is cheaper it will be done. Headphone jacks are easy and cheap to waterproof, batteries not so much. But what's cheaper? Removing it all together saving on the port the cutouts and the additional waterproofing needed.

Fixed. If marketing didn't work, no one would have it ;) Click bait and the number of times (I've counted 2) this video alone has changed titles is a form of marketing trying to get sheep to view the video, tho I think this current title is more fitting than the last.

No issues with them doing them, it's just for those who want to know while every provider is offering some stupid amount of free junk or promos on launch they will need to go elsewhere leaving LMG out of much needed views. You don't need 4 weeks with a phone, you only need 1, if it doesn't drive you up the wall at that time you note the negatives and make the video. If it drives you up the wall smash it smash it good, shoot it out of a potato gun and roast it using Lukes not a a flamethrower ? Tho I have a feeling that might become a meme real quick and would consist of every iPhone and Sammy phone reviewed from now on because that would just bring in more reviews than a actual review ?

LMG either needs to stop doing time sensitive videos or release them sooner, if they can't scrap the video. In this case if the people who sent the unit over really wanted it to be reviewed in a timely manner guess they should have paid the premium in next day shipping ?

it still eats into content, therefor i deem it a pice of crap. it just had to be a bit higher and it wouldnt have had to eat in to 18:9 content and i lust for the S10 but noooo ?

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...
