Geforce now @ Dreamhack and/or rentable rigs?

Chronified

Hey there,

I've been accepted into the Geforce Now Beta for quite a while now and am making the final plans to go to LTX this year.

I'm wondering what the public internet connection at the BYOC is going to be like (not just the connection directly to Dreamhacks super-fast cache server).

I'm hoping to bring a crappylappy, KB+Mouse+Headset and a 20" 1080p monitor in my carry on and use GeforceNow at the event instead of putting my massive PC in my luggage and praying to the skys that it doesn't get damaged by the airline.

OORRRR

Suggestion that there should be an extra Dreamhack option with a rent-able PC, prices varying based on GPU/CPU combo. I'm sure the rigs for the employee lounge will be ready fast enough that they can be moved over temporarily (as well as numerous other systems collecting dust) and be rented out at the overnight Dreamhack.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to go to dreamhack, but I'm deathly afraid of the public connection not being able to support GeforceNow at the event. It takes 50-75mbps in my testing depending on the scene and how much is going on onscreen.

Forget it.

There are just too many people and not enough bandwith.

And that stuff don't work with ISDN speed.

Or DSL 1.0 Speed.

ISDN is an internet protocol, not a connection type

and wtf is DSL 1.0? Dreamhack isn't going to be running any sort of DSL, I can assure you of that lol

This is why they bring a VERY large cacheing server, it has 90% of the Steam, Origin, Uplay libraries and Windows Updates too. I'm sure the one that Dreamhack brings has even more than the one Linus built, just for sheer main-internet connection saving.

I doubt many people will be watching Youtube/Twitch/Netflix or browsing FB at the event and honestly wouldn't be surprised if they blacklisted all of that so even a gigabit connection should suffice for connecting everyone to their game servers.

Dreamhack has unofficially stated that the connection will be 500mbps or possibly 1gb for the whole event. People will be streaming video up to twitch and others as well as downloading games and streaming music and videos. The connection will not be that great and they WON'T let you take 1/6th of it. There infrastructure is great and they WILL find out who is bottlenecking them. The event center is the issue with there internet and they really would like to provide better internet.

We're working on securing the best internet connection possible, but I would not advise using GeForce Now at the BYOC. There will be the FreePlay area with rigs hooked up so you could use those during times the event is open if you'd like.
