terrible bluetooth range

Ashley MLP Fangirl

i think my MacBook Pro has an issue with the bluetooth, because if i place my hands on the palmrest sometimes my audio (bluetooth headset) will stutter.

it's not the headset, it doesn't have this issue when it's connected either to my iPhone or to other computers.

how can i fix this? the wifi is still getting good speed so...

this is what my Mac says about the model etc of the bluetooth card.

Would you happen to know if this occurs with any other Bluetooth audio device?
If you haven't tested that I would suggest trying another device just to make sure.

I am aware you have used the headphones on your phone but it's just to ensure we can eliminate that from this particular situation.

hmmm okay,
I am unsure where else to look.
I take it, you have unpaired the headset and repaired it back to the make?

yup. it's done this for a long time, maybe even since i've owned it, but it recently got worse.

Have you tried a fresh install of the OS?
Also maybe see if there is a way to do a drive reset. I am not sure with macs.
If I can be bothered tomorrow I will bring mine out and see what I can find.

i've fresh installed the OS a few times since owning it, and it didn't solve the issue.

You know how on a windows machine you can Uninstaller a driver then reinstall it? Maybe something along those lines but for a mac?

@Fallen Soul i doubt that's possible. Mac's are very closed that way. the only way you can even get at the drivers is by booting to recovery and accessing them via terminal, which i can't do because my disk is encrypted. i would have to decrypt it first which is a massive headache.

Okay, well besides installing a new bluetooth module then for this particular issue i dont think i can be of any help. Like i said though. Might pull my MacBook out tomorrow and have a play.

Edit:

Well not to try take side but that shows how stupid macs can be. Any way. All the best on your issue. Take it to an apple store ?

nah, there's no real need. i doubt this is a software issue. it's likely just because this Mac is 8 years old and used for 12+ hours a day.

i'll open it up and reseat the antenna's for the wireless etc tomorrow and see if that helps.
