my schools pc (massive overkill)

aidenrelkoff

in my IT group, we're running Celerons (s1155), 2GB of amazingly DDR3-1333MHz RAM and the cutting edge Intel Integrated Graphics! All of that sits in the worst cases ever, with 0 cooling. Ooh, also, they are extremely loud, so when all of the 15 PCs are turned on, it's loud in da class...
But our teacher has a better PC: i3, 8GB ram and a GT610

Sorry for my bad English!

I'm doing a IT technical support/networking course, we set-up a server on one of our rooms PC's (i5 4570, 500GB hard drive, 8GB RAM and integrated graphics) Long story short, we set up DHCP on the server and some idiot plugged a cable into the college networking port as well as our own internal room network so it started dishing out IP's to over 300 computers which made whatever anyone was doing on those 300 computers disappear as they were no longer connected to the network drives

All of them logged out and they couldn't work all day, the IT technicians eventually started to blame us after we had realised we had the only working computers on that floor, so about 4 hours after the computers went down, they found the problem.

We were blissfully unaware as we run our own network and rarely plug directly into the college wide network.

Good times...

My university has atleast one computer lab in every building. They all have these really old dells running windows 7 on 720p displays. The computer science majors have a two room lab all to ourself. The computers in this room range from imacs to two desktops with six core i7s, dual titans and dual 30" 1440p monitors. We can use then whenever we want for school or programming purposes but on weekends and weekdays after 5pm we can fillout a sign in sheet to use them for pretty much anything. I carry my 1tb usb3 hdd with me to play my steam games. Today I spent about 2 hours playing paranautical activity (just got it from humble weekly sale).

Quick steal one of those titans when no ones looking, nobody will notice

My programming computers in college are no where near as close. The best thing we get to gloat about compared to the other PCs is that we get SSDs while everyone else gets crappy 5400rpm HDDs. Oh and we have some sort of Nvidia GPU. Probably around the region of a GT 6XX.

Setup: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz, Corsair H100i Cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB Ram @ 1600 Mhz, MSI Z87-GD65 Motherboard, Corsair GS700 2013 edition PSU, MSI GTX 770 Lightning, Samsung EVO 120 SSD + 2TB&1TB Seagate Barracudas, BenQ XL2411T Monitor, Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones + AntLion ModMic 4.0

My school has 2 computer labs, 1 of which was for computer animation and was equipped with Intel Xeon (no GPU) computers. Sad thing is that it's heavily locked down (no bios, no aero, no installing programs, no USB except keyboard/mouse). Then again, we haven't used that room since last year since the last teacher passed away and last year's teacher got fired due to crappy teaching.

is this for robotics? because our school's robotics team has nice pc's. or is this for an engineering class of some sort? I'm guessing you go to a private school..

If I was in charge of your school I would fire your techs they don't have a clue. (unless you have a legitimate reason for that power)

Schools are so fucking stupid regarding IT. We have 2 special pc's with I5's and dedicated GPU's and 8gb RAM for Photo editing, cuz the art class needed it, never once used, they blocked Photoshop... Our pc's in school have i5's and 120GB Intel SSD's, running Win7 and XP, total overkill.

My school has old iMacs for Art class, not much better. (core 2 duo with 3 Go of DDR2 RAM I checked)

Once i opened the Nvidia control panel (I'm suprised that worked but i guess they didn't know what it was :P) on one of the computers in my programming class and changed it to 16 bit and skrewed with the colors and stuff. They had to format the whole lab to get it back to normal.

Lol only if it was the k version of the 3770 version, that would be hilarious if you'd overclock the processor, however you can overclock the GPU :D

By the way, how many of these OP PC's does your school have?

Im not sure if the 3770 has integrated graphics as well or not, but that would be pretty funny just steal a GPU.

Or take one GPU from one machine, go buy a SLI bridge, and go put it in another PC and go SLI with it HA HA!

I thought the pc's at my school were crap, but it seems they are quite good! Most of them are i5-2600 (i think, well it's an i5 quad core at least)

8 Gig ram (we do some basic virtualisation)

On-board graphics (boo, gaming is barely possible but oh well, it runs openTTD and trackmania :D )

1Tb hdd (weird enough at some computers there is more than 900 gig used O_o)

There is a local server where we need to log on, but no file sharing, but we can share games with each other with some (not allowed) tweaking =D

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3
