Not at all, you should always have extra processing power under the hood.

what do you mean overkill?

$165 cpu with a $100 gpu, on price only, it sure is bad match.

but theres nothing wrong with it

not really. the 1060 3GB is an awful card tho. not really for its performance, which is not great at its pricepoint, but  its fine.

would never suggest people to buy one however

I don't know where you're from but pretty much across the globe a GTX 1060 3gb is no longer anywhere near worth 200 dollars.

The 2600 is a pretty great CPU for general computing, it will handle your 1060 without any bottlenecking, and it gives you a nice baseline if in the future, you're ready to upgrade the GPU without having to rebuild your system from the ground up.

If you haven't bought yet: Bear in mind that the 2600 is about to be succeeded by 3rd gen Ryzen (which promises to be an improvement.) This could mean a good price drop coming soon for the 2nd gen stuff too. (It is pretty well priced with the free games and stuff currently though.)

well thats 1 heck of a place to buy a GPU, what about AMD?

I've seen used (3gb) 1060's on ebay for about $70-90 USD shipped lately.

The R5 2600 is currently $165 new from what I've seen around, and includes 3 brand new game titles.

Is that what you're asking?

R5 2600 only includes Tom Clancy Division 2, 1060 3gb is a pretty bad card for 200$, but the R5 2600 isn't overkill for the 1060 3gb although it doesn't bring out the r5's full potential since it can handle stronger gpus.
