help needed, what laptop to pick

Recommended Posts

Need help!

I've been using an old laptop (acer 4743 13 m380) and thinking to get a new one as I've used this one for good 7 years (I'm actually impressed since it runs without significant errors, just upgrade on RAM to 8GB, 1 battery and 1 fan replacement.) Now with more demanding work needs, I think it is time to upgrade.

I will use it on 2D-3D projects (maybe VR in the future), and tiny bit of non competitive gaming. So I think i7 8750H and GTX 1060 with 17 inch IPS would be great...

I've researched a bit of MSI GP73 8RE and Asus FX705GM (leaning more to this for durability reasons), my budget is around these 2.... any other recommended laptops based on this?

Also how important is USB-C to have in the future?

Thanks and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Where are you from? Max budget? No preference on weight and battery life?

Unless you have a lot of devices that uses USB C, it's not that useful

Hi, I'm from Indonesia,

Budget wise, it is around fx705 and gp73 8re, not sure how that translates since it is typically 35-40%% higher here (fx705gm is ~1400$ in indonesia, gp738re is a bit higher at ~1500$)

No problem on weight as long as it is under 3.5kg,

As for battery life, I usually use it plugged (with battery removed) and only rely on battery only for emergencies (blackout, train/plane travels).

The only USB C I had is my phone, and I backup it on cloud storage.

thanks

if translated into my currency, it is Rp 20.000.000 (can wiggle a bit, ~5-10% if it is really worth the price)

here are some link on local sellers

FX705GM

GP73 8RE

this one also caught my eye, but it is pricier (outside my range), I will have to save a bit more for this or wait till the price drops...

from my understanding, you want a 17 inch device? Don't want 15 inch?

yes, since 17 will help a lot on my working process... I can consider 15 if it cuts the budget significantly (so I can just plug a good monitor later on)
