2080 TI heat issues

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

At a loss. I have done everything I think of to control the heating on my 2080ti FE, adjusting the fan cure, changing the case fans,  and even opening the case.  And I am still idling in the mid 40c and while playing a game Warhammer 2 I hit 85c and above at 100% fans. I am beginning to think I need to RMA it.  Other than the heat it runs grat.

Sounds like a blower style card to me.

What card is it?

Sounds like FE.

Mine run crazy hot. I had to put in 3 120mm case fans blowing right on them. Even then I still hit 80-83c on the top card but I don’t have to have to have an aggressive fan curve on the cards. I thought my case circulation was the issue until I took the side off and had a box fan blowing on them with not much better temps. The fans at 100% are too noisy for me.

That sounds about right.

My EVGA XC card has a reference PCB and will run at 85c if I set the power targat to 130% with a slight overclock. The card does not clock down at that temp and the fans run at around 89%.

In all the test that I have done on the card, noise is the only real issue. If I want the card to be quite most of the time all I have to do is set it to default.

My XC is the first card I have bought in a very long time that does not have a reference to performance in its name so my bad.

I also have a FTW Ultra. It always stays cool and quiet but because of its power limits it does not walk away from the XC.

Which model of the card?
What case do you have?

It is a Nvidia2080ti FE  my case is a 6-year-old Corsair  Graphite Series. I have a front 200m Noctua in the front as an intake, 2 120mm Nocturaon top as exhaust and the water cooler for the cpu is in a push-pull. I had a 1080ti in it before and never had a heat issue. As I sit here writing this the 2080ti is running a 45c and the CPU is 34c. I am about to rebuild this into a Cosair780T  I'd like to lock this down before I do as I will be putting the GPU under water.  Thanks for all the help.  Edit. I love the performance, but this heat is really bothering me. Should I switch to a Strix? Will I get the same performance. They look close in stats looking at them but I am not sure I am getting the gest of the whole comparison.

not much you can do about the stock FE cooler and temps, thats the bad news. Good news, the FE cards are the best silicon nvidia keeps to themselves, so if you do decide to spend money on cooler, slap a AIO on that sucker and you'll likely end up with an above average oc.

Cool..Thanks, I was going to put an AIO on it in my new build.  Thank you for responding.

My experience is some games make the GPU run hotter than others.    All I know is Battlefield V runs much hotter near 85 than compared to Quake Champions.

I've been playing tons of Division 2 and have not bothered looking at temps and benchmarks.  Too busy having fun with game.

Thanks. I have seen it different on the different game as well.

It's kinda early in Spring season to see any temp difference yet, but other night it was 75 degrees in my house...  That's usually point I use my A/C, but don't need it yet.  This summer will be a concern for me as it gets 110+ during the summer.

I understand the enough though I live in Manie US it gets pretty toasty here in the summer and the humidity is awful.

I'm in the same boat. I upgraded from a 1080 FE that ran nice and cool (like 73c tops). My 2080 ti's aren't throttling but those fans like to scream when they get hot.

Glad to know it's not just me... Fixing to slap in under an AIO so hopefully, that will solve it/.
