Looking for a power supply

D_r111

Looking to build a new computer, my old 3.0ghz am2 with a Radeon HD 6750 and 6gb of ram just isn't cutting it, lol.

I am looking at a am4 2400g with 16gb of ram and a GTX 1070 TI. I am trying to find a power supply with an 8pin CPU connector and another 6 and 8 pin connectors for my video card.

Would prefer something off Amazon Canada so it can all be shipped together.

Get a better MOBO as well. GB DS3H is pretty basic model. Recommended B450 boards for gaming IMHO MSI B450M mortar, B450 Tomahawk, B450m gaming plus& asrock Fatal1ty Gaming K4..

And consider Ryzen 2600, roughly the same price as 2400G, but more cores-more threads, better performance. And actually almost the same price..

And get faster rams, 2400Mhz is way to low frequency, Ryzens benefit a lot from 3000+ MHZ clockspeeds.

Also, there is no point in choosing M2 SSD for general use&gaming. During these tasks, you won't notice any difference compared to standard ssd-s.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

M.2 is just a form factor and has nothing to do with speed. You're thinking of nvme SSDs.

The Kingston uv500 is a SATA based SSD. Whether it is in m.2 or 2.5" form factor it still has the same SATA based performance.

Everything else you suggested is great advice though. Ryzen 2600 would be better than the 2400G since they're using a dedicated GPU. Faster memory, better motherboard would be good as well.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

Thanks for the input. googled for it, and realized I was not right. Thanks for clearing this up.

Great, thank you

There are better units available for example Bitfenix Formula, be quiet Pure Power 10/11.

Any better?

No
YOu don't need no 700W

you need a good quality PSU!

Even a 400W would be enough without OC though maybe cuttin it a bit close.

Reasonable would be a 550W Bitfenix Formula, if the price is right Silverstone Strider S.

Let's not get into it here, but the Formula 550 isn't the best PSU (not modular) for that POS case with very little cable management space

That even makes it better because you don't have the space of the connectors.

THe Formula is as basic as it gets, so that makes it optimal for small units.

And for the one Drive Connector that's not used, you can use one of the supplied Zipties.

Even more reason not to use a non modular PSU. Get any Tier B or above 550w semi or full modular unit.

I'll go ahead and recommend what I bought. Prime 850 Titanium. It will be the second most expensive item in your build, but it might also be the PSU for life. I tend to overspend on important parts so there's that... ?

I was looking at the bitfenix 550w as well but it was more expensive and not available with prime. I figured this one with 700w with an 80+ gold certification would be good. Is too much power a bad thing?

And, it's completely unneeded for 99% of people. There's a reason why it's up in the Tier S category on the list; it's extremely expensive and your average user will gain nada from it.

Oh, bitfenix whisper M 550 is approx 100$, modular, gold. I love it. The 450W would be enough though...

btw, why would you choose 1070ti instead of 2060 or 1660ti? Former beats 1070ti&latter only lags behind ~10%.

Are you close to a Memory Express or Canada Computers location? Amazon doesn't have many deals on power supplies.

I know. I just assumed, Canadian pricing is better-lower, because our local prices are waaay to high due to 27% VAT.

110 USD, ships from Canada

The closest canada computers is a 15+ hour drive without traffic, I may just have to get the Bitfenix Whisper 550w from a 3rd party amazon seller.

Newegg is also a good option. They over pretty cheap shipping to most of Canada.

If you'd be ok with buying refurbished go for
