Motherboard Tier List (EOL)

@Jurrunio A buddy of mine planning to switch to AM4, possibly 3600, though a 3700x is also likely.

He is looking for MB  with decent onboard audio , good vrm heatsinks and good BIOS  options. The first choice would have been MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC,  but I'm not entirely sure, that MSI bios of late actually work well with zen2 processors.

Then there are X570 boards, but those are still a bit dear. What are the best budget boards (mean: below 200€) for third gen right now?  Good bios support is a must, and a finer onboard audio is also important for him. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance..

PS: There is plenty of people complaining about MSI BIOS-es for 3rd gen Ryzen in local ZEN2 threads, that is why I'd rather ask someone with better insight, instead of just giving the knee-jerk response "Buy MSI b450.. max"

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

they had some cold boot issues, but they started to push out microcode with a recent bios release

X570-P is the best, since I dont know whether the TUF or Aorus Elite break the 200 Eur cap

What about the Gigabyte B450 i Aorus Pro Wifi? I don't see it and is it okay if I pair it with the Ryzen 5 3600 with light overclocking? I would really appreciate it if you can help me with all my questions.

I don't really understand what current draw 50A meaning so I'm just gonna ask this, would it be fine if I pair the B450 i Aorus Pro Wifi with the Ryzen 5 3600 while lightly overclocking it? I was gonna get the Strix B450 i but for some reason in my place it costs $180 while the Aorus is at $120 only. Kinda worried about the vrm temps.

I already mentioned the CPU good for each tier, 3600 is fine but dont expect good VRM temps with more cores.

Found an X570 Gigabyte board not listed:

Part #

X570 UD

I realize it's not going to be real high-end assuming it's similar design to the Gigabyte Entry-level UD-Design for their Z390, but it may not be trash-tier either.  Lemme know.

GJ. UD is just the Gaming X with PCIe slot position shifted around, a x16 slot connected to the chipset changed to x4, lost some (if not all) LED headers and an M.2 slot, bye bye rear I/O plastic cover and a different shade of grey. Oh, and it has BIOS flashback button in the rear I/O while Gaming X keeps it below the bottom PCIe slot.

So perhaps offers very good value to the buyers of 3700x and such as a non-bad VRM platform that is one of the cheapest options available for X570.  It's only $20 more than the cheapest board on US PCPartPicker from what I just saw.

Yes and no. The components are better on the ITX board, but its small heatsink and small cases usually paired with it means it still runs hotter

So like the ITX has better VRMs but since it has a small heatsink and assuming that the case is also ITX then like it equals everything out? B450 ITX = ATX = X470?

It's still board dependent, I wont say an B450I Aorus Pro is as good as the X470 Gaming 7 for example.

You are not aware then (watch Buildzoid or look up the VRM stats), that it uses the same higher-end VRMs as the TUF Plus & Strix-F.  It actually goes in Tier A.

Where did you get the idea that it's lower tier?  The price alone?

That's not what this says: https://www.anandtech.com/show/14161/the-amd-x570-motherboard-overview/2

The X570 Prime-P has the exact same listed Controller, sides, and chokes as the Strix-F and TUF.  Buildzoid knows what he's talking about when he pointed out the boards are all equal on VRM.

no it doesn't, TUF & Prime Pro & X570-F has 50% more powerstages in the 4 phase setup than the Prime P with the same voltage controller. In actual temperature testing with the 3900X though the X570-P has the lowest temperature. I still expect it to get hotter than the other 3 boards in 3950X OC range of power draw as it exits the efficient range of the Vishay SiC639 (15-20A), but it should have enough thermal headroom to do the job
