PG279Q in 2019

Referi Jerator

Dear LTT forum,

I'm interested in purchasing the PG279Q by ASUS but I've read and heard the worst about it. Atrocious backlight bleeding, dead pixels, yellow tint on specific sections of the panel, cracked chassis, rot and dust in the boxes etc. Has the quality control improved at all or is it still the same in 2019? It's too much money to pretty much "gamble" on getting a good sample and then be at the mercy of the store + ASUS if something goes wrong. If the QC is still dreadful, do you have any alternatives to recommend at approximately the same specs?

Due to the new Nvidia driver which allows their GPUs to use Fresync too now, there is no absolute necessity for it to be a G-sync monitor so please go ahead and recommend Freesync products as well if need be. But please, not the Acer XB271HU as I dislike its aesthetics. I'd prefer a subtle (at least as much as possible with these "gaming" monitors) design please.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Referi Jerator

AVOID THE XB271HU AT ALL COSTS

I would get the Aorus Gaming Monitor, as it has better specs than both the PG279q and ACER

i7 6700k, GTX 1080, Crucial MX 300, Maximus VII Hero, WD Blue, 16 GB RAM

Well 27" is way too small for me at least.  I would go for a 35" ultrawide but to each their own.  Do you want IPS monitor or doesn't matter if its VA ?  IPS will cause bleeding but it is not as bad as you make it sound like.  Overall a great monitor.  I would just opt for 34 or 35"  If you have a budget we can get you a nice 35" IPS 144hz which will cost around a thousand bucks.

Hello friends, thank you for your taking the time to reply to my thread. I am sorry for not providing details regarding what I'll use the product for, I thought saying that I'm looking for a monitor with similar specs to the PG279Q but with proper quality control would be enough. Anyway, I'll be using the monitor for Gaming, Movies, Video and Photo editing, as well as the usual everyday use (internet, chatting etc.). IMPORTANT: 27 inches MAXIMUM due to space limitations. Also, NO TN panels as the monitor will be placed at an angle.

Thank you.

I recommend this monitor if you play at 1440p.  AOC Curved 35"

You will not like the 27" 1440p monitor for video editing and content creation.  It is just way small.  Gaming on it will be good tho.  So tell us do you prefer VA or IPS ,, TN has horrible views,, VA is better,, and IPS in plane switching is excellent at angles.  Most hard core gamers tho stay away from IPS as it has more input lag.

I mostly use my computer for productivity stuff, so I don't need a 240Hz TN or anything. Rather, I need a monitor which has nice vivid colors, good viewing angles and at least 144Hz refresh rate to make games more enjoyable whenever I play. I'm looking for specs similar to PG279Q's as I said, so 27 inches, 1440p, IPS or VA (though I don't know how good the viewing angles are here) etc.

Samsung C27HG70 may be a decent option. It's a 27" 1440p 144 Hz VA panel with a wide gamut backlight which can produce excellent colors, and supports FreeSync. It is not as good in the motion blur department though, and is curved.

My vote would be the Aorus monitor, 10 bit colors, released in 2019 no need to say more.

Regarding the Samsung one, I've heard that it is very likely to come with dead pixels and some purple issue, is that true?
Regarding the Aorus one, I can see that it indeed has very similar specs to PG279Q, but those aesthetics...

What about the Eizo FS2735?

  • 2 months later...

Bit of a thread necro here but wondering if OP or anyone else has any experience with recent 2019 PG279Q's? Thinking about getting one, my requirements:

1440p res

144Hz+

GSYNC

IPS panel

Understated aesthetics - I don't even like the ROG stuff but at least you can turn the LED off, I'd rather Dell Ultrasharp to be honest

Use case is high fps gaming in CS:GO, Batallion 1944, Apex, some Battlefield 1/V and some single player RPG stuff. My PC is pretty damn old but can still churn enough FPS for those games in lower settings (3770K @ 4.5GHz, 16GB DDR3, GTX 970 OC'd). At some point I will build a new rig (9900K/32GB/RTX2080Ti etc) when a game justifies it, probably for Cyberpunk 2077.

For what it's worth, I keep monitors a long time. My current display is a Dell 2407WFP (1920x1200 24in IPS, 60Hz) which I've had since it was released in 2007 lol.

Decided not to bother with 4K res until video cards catch up in a few years.
