Just gifted a camera...complete newb - what did I get?

I do a lot of PC work for people for free.  Regardless they feel obligated to do something and I hate money so I end up usually getting things.  Today was no different and I just get this with battery pack and a bunch of storage:

 

Sony DSLR-A230 (edited to correct the model number) and has a SAL55200-2 lens on it

 

Anything to shake a stick at?  I guarantee you its better (charging battery now) than my camera phone which is atrocious from 2012.

And apparently I listed the model (googling myself) of the lens LOL.  Ill try to find specs on this or take a pictureception.

It's definitely good enough to get you started in photography. Nothing too crazy by modern standards though (it is like 10 years old at this point). I don't think Sony uses that mount anymore so if you decide to upgrade you'll need to start over with your lens collection but that also means you can go to any brand you want in the future.

But definitely master this one before you move on. Maybe pick up a 35mm for it if you can/if it's cheap enough but don't overspend on it.

THANK YOU.  Perfect explanation.  Photography isn't my thing but I have taken pictures for stuff on (example) this forum and my phone is...LACKING.  So this will replace that nicely for prepping pics for my upcoming build.
