Speaking of which, looks like that is going to get even more complicated.

Appears there's some new EVGA G5 and GA units coming soon. I'm guessing the EVGA G1+ was the G4 model which is why they went from G3 to G5?

The EVGA GA is an Andyson made unit though.

Can confirm GA is Andyson.

In addition to what Spotty said, there's also EVGA GT coming in powers of 550, 650 and 750W, made by HEC. The single 12V rails are respectively 549.6W, 648W and 750W.

There was also supposed to be 500/600/700 GQ made by Andyson, and 500/600W2 also made by Andyson, but it didn't go anywhere yet.

Does the S tier include both the platinum and gold variants of the Seasonic Prime Ultra 650W or just the platinum one?

My reading is that it is both, but @LienusLateTips might disagree and he is the final authority for obvious reasons

My Silverstone Strider SST-ST65F-G 650W Modular Power Supply blew up today whilst computer was in stand by off. 2 big sparks, a puff of pc smoke and there it went.

Silverstone Gold PSUs should not be Tier A as they only come with 3 years and mine just died a couple months after warranty ended, just great :(

dude... one single moment of error doesn't make a psu directly worthless

I'm sorry to hear it, but we won't change on a single event

What's the cheapest B or A tier unit with a zero rpm fan mode? Sorting through pcpartpicker can be frustrating.

Also, LTT mods, staff, etc ... When I came back to this to finish the post on my phone after going to test the PCPP stuff ... It reloaded the page (red flag #1 - shouldn't have had to do that), then when I clicked the reply box at the bottom, it restored post content I'd typed from like a couple months ago.

Can you post a topic in Bugs and Issues about this with a bit more detail about what happened, then I'll look into it?

just get Pure Power 11, no need for zero RPM mode when it uses $25-30 fan(Silent Wings 3) limited to 900ish RPM

I just quick-scanned the PCPP PSU list and most likely this would be cheapest as of posting (with Mail In Rebate, otherwise 450W one can be cheaper) for a  PSU with a 0 rpm mode:

you know my opinion about that one, don't you

I suspected that you might bring up the stated issues with it.  It's the answer to you get what you pay for, but mentioning the PSU does leave room to discuss what it costs to get a PSU that is whisper quiet above 420W.  If he just needs it quiet while not full-power gaming (with a beefy GPU)  I expect Focus Plus Gold to a get the job done as at minimum one would expect the units shipping today to not having direct issues with certain GPUs.  My friend's Focus Gold 550W is running his GTX 1080 just fine.

that's because there's no issue between those combinations, except for the riple on the later revision

i'd suggest to read this:

I recognize that the loud fan under load is enough to disqualify in this case, do you suspect the issue is made worse by ripple causing extra heat to build up?

Now that I've dug in, do we know more about issues with the ripple for this example, a 550W unit?  I only saw results talking about ripple in the link you provided on pceva (using translate page) and they were looking at a 850W (100W overpowered) worst case scenario.  But when I look at a review from 2018 from HardOCP they don't see major ripple issues with their unit, they go as far as admitting it's a bit noisy but nothing deal-breaking, and recommend it:  https://www.hardocp.com/article/2018/10/17/seasonic_focus_plus_gold_550w_power_supply_review/9

i have no data on that, so i can't really say much about that

well, it's the whole platform, not just the 850w platinum tested at pceva

and if you think about it, the point where the old revision started to turn off, is also the point where the new one starts to ripple

Yes, but did you look at the review I posted?  It shows no signs of that.  I also pointed out how the scenario is a pretty unrealistic one that pceva used and doesn't show ripple as an issue during typical power use with a gpu active.

I am happy to accept facts if you have them, but as of yet I don't see any that paint the CURRENT (as seen in the 2018 reivew) Focus Plus Gold units as having horrible ripple.  I see a review where the ripple is fine, and where it would not be a sin to get the product.

@LienusLateTips So I never really got an answer regarding my question on the 650W Seasonic Prime ULTRA mentioned in the S category of the list. Are both the titanium and gold versions in the S category or is it just the titanium version that'a considered to be of that category?

All are in S, only 550/650

Looks good but it's expensive, over $100 for the 500w version.

i'd suggest to read this:

I'd have no idea there was anything wrong with those based on the fier list. Looking at it some more there's the Corsair Vengeance 80+ Silver with a 0 rpm mode for $74.99, that seems to be the cheapest non Seasonic psu with that feature.

I guess a filter for 0 rpm mode psu's, there's one for fanless currently.
