The Seasonic PRIME Ultra 550w was $109 - $20 rebate = $89 USD, which should be about the same price as a new RM650x unit.

I see the rm650x refurb is $73 USD, not half bad. Just worried about that 1 year warranty in the fine print, even though the product page says 10 years.

I got the last one for $50, there were 14 yesterday and they're gone now...

The SF450 powering my gaming rig home is also a refurb and is 3 years old now. Still going strong.

correct, but tier s is going away anyways

I'd call the fan on the rmx actually better than the prime

Absolutely, but imo worth it anyway.

Same reason why people buy refurb/used parts anyway - price to performance is better.

Also I think Corsair actually puts effort into refurb units unlike some certain other companies that just slap a badge on it.

Could someone explain to me why the EVGA G2 PSUs are considered higher quality than the G3s? As far as I can tell they are both SuperFlower Leadex, and the G3 is just the newer version of the G2 with a different fan (smaller but better iirc?)

I have a 550W G2 in my home server at the moment, and I'm building a system for a friend and I can only find G3s at a reasonable price. So I wanted to ask before I spent any money as the G3 is the same price as what I paid for my G2 but if it is indeed worse than I'll look for something else, like an RM/RMx or similar PSU.

The G2 is just missing the temperature protection, while the G3 is missing both overpower protection and has terribly high temperature protection.

so if I keep the G2 cool it will be as good as all the reviewers let on?

It's essentially open air and eco mode off so it shoud be ok?

the only bq at that level would be the dark power pro 11, which is a custom design, i recall by fsp

axi is a flextronics, who normally makes server psus, they're expensive, but perform really well

if the price difference is big: dpp 11

if the price difference is small: axi

seem like i'll be getting dark power 11 1000w or 1200watt, the only axi i found where 1600 and 1200 both at same price 450.

just wondering do i need to over clock dpp11 or should i keep it at default setting?

A) Curious why do you need such high wattage?

B) There's no such thing as overclocking a PSU. ;)

wait... what? i mean... you can bring it into single rail or multirail with a switch, but you certainly should keep it on multi

oh alright, i thought it was some "gaming mode" or something along those lines,  so i might aswell not bother plugging the adapter assuming default is multi.

one more thing is this psu going to stay an S in next tier update?

on that note thank for the big help still very much new to this

850w would easily handle 2080Ti SLI.

Just give it some serious thought though. Because SLI isn't supported on modern games like t used to be and it can cause other glitches and problems. GPUs have gotten pretty powerful now that 4k 60fps on high-ultra is very much achievable in a lot of games with a single 2080 or 2080Ti.

Hmm Antec EarthWatts Gold Pro 550w is currently discounted in my country ~59-60 € price, depending on retailer.

Anyone has experience with the customer-warranty support of Antec? Are they reasonable and straightforward? The unit itself seems to be good, and fairly cheaper than BQ PurePower 11 non-modular 500w for instance. Roughly the same price as a CX450M Corsair.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

thanks. I believe it was mentioned before, I just did not remember.

How is antec with warranty issues? BC the Focus units by SS have 10years warranty, whereas Antec offers seven, but, the retailers only give 2-3 years for it.

Why it is semi-modular, whereas, I recall Focus units to be fully modular. Or are those just the focus plus models?

Bringing up this S-tier unit again because I found an even better deal on it.

Newegg via eBay: SeaSonic PRIME Ultra Gold 550W (SSR-550GD2)

  • Add it to your cart for an automatic 20% off, so $87 USD before tax.
  • Then Newegg has a $20 USD rebate (read that it's applicable because you will receive a Newegg invoice, not an eBay one), to make this $67 USD.
  • This unit is typically $105-110 at etailers.

Pulled the trigger on it:

Monitor doesn't matter because it doesn't run off your PSU. You could run up to a 2080Ti with that PSU, but I wouldn't recommend it due to the lower-quality/performance of that model. It's down in Tier C which means it's just sort of "ok" for an average system. Personally I wouldn't run more than a 2070 super on it.
