Using an old modem router as a Modem?

Hi guys

I'm thinking of upgrading my router, and I was looking at a Linksys WRT32X-UK since it offers easy QOS settings and device prioritization, and seems to be a decent deal at £105.99 on Amazon.

My current modem router is a TP-link Archer VR600 AC1600. Would it be fine being used as a modem only? I basically know nothing about networking, and I was wondering if the modem router's modem would be inferior to a standalone modem like a Netgear DM200.

Also, would I need to make settings changes to my VR600 to make it work better as a dedicated modem?
