RX 580s are like $190 for an 8GB model. Just buy one of those, get some free games, and call it a day.

This card is the most pointless launch, it's even more pointless than the rx 590, and that's saying something...

This was supposed to wipe the floor with the rx 580. Instead it barely beats it in games and gets slaughtered in most productivity benchmarks. Turing is getting worse and worse. Thankfully a 1650 may save the day and might actually give Polaris something to think about. The fact that Polaris murders Turing despite being 2 years older is just embarrassing. The whole idea of these launches was surely to dethrone the rx 570. It doesn't even come close. Why on earth did they release these cards...

I mean the lower you go, the stronger AMD gets. The 560 and 570 are nice cards too.

Overclock the 1660's memory and you'll see how much gains there are (nearly 1660Ti, so nearly 1070 level of performance). If you want the 3 games AMD offers, sure go RX 580. If you don't like the games (I can understand why someone don't like RE2 and TC:Division 2, but even DMC5? srsly) or already bought them, then 1660 is a good choice. Don't see the point for the 1660ti for this reason, either you overclock the 1660 to make up for the speed gap, or you get the 2060 for just being a faster card in every way.

Except the 1660 can match a 1660ti when overclocking with the 590 having practically 0 overclocking headroom. Not to mention is much much more power efficient.

We are talking about the value proposition of mid tier cards. Of which the RX 580 offers the best value for existing systems.

I originally said the 1660 can match the 1660ti which beats the 590 most of the time. Don't know how that got to all cards but ok. The cheapest RX 580 8GB on Newegg is $190 and the 1660 cheapest is $220. $30 more for a big jump in power efficiency and the Nvidia fancy features is worth it IMO.

"power efficiency" doesnt sell cards and most people hate Nvidias handling of software.

The 1660 just isn't that impressive, and that's ok. Nvidia isn't going anywhere. Well, at least not until Intel comes into the game.

You can choose not to install Geforce Experience which was source of everyones issues with their drivers. AMD's drivers are not exactly great either (Not to mention you can't even install them in a Windows Server system -_-)

Maybe I'm blind but I didn't understand that complain and "relative value" charts.

Can someone explain to me that one?

How doesn't came that having a good cost per frame it's not a good proposition?

I've had more issues with AMD drivers than I have ever had with Nvidia. The biggest one being the artificial limitation on Windows Server and consumer grade GPU's.

You can choose not to install Geforce Experience which was source of everyones issues with their drivers. AMD's drivers are not exactly great either (Not to mention you can't even install them in a Windows Server system -_-)

It is pretty common information and experience now that AMD drivers are ahead of Nvidia. My GTX 980 has had mild problems and been a great card but the NVCP is so old and lacking, AMD drivers have everything very accessibly laid out for you. A couple of objective semantics like superior game-play recording using relive vs shadow play, plus the fact AMD driver team now release on time game ready driver releases. R9 380 in my other computer runs great.

I've had more issues with AMD drivers than I have ever had with Nvidia. The biggest one being the artificial limitation on Windows Server and consumer grade GPU's.

Nice anecdote

This card is the most pointless launch, it's even more pointless than the rx 590, and that's saying something...

This was supposed to wipe the floor with the rx 580. Instead it barely beats it in games and gets slaughtered in most productivity benchmarks. Turing is getting worse and worse. Thankfully a 1650 may save the day and might actually give Polaris something to think about. The fact that Polaris murders Turing despite being 2 years older is just embarrassing. The whole idea of these launches was surely to dethrone the rx 570. It doesn't even come close. Why on earth did they release these cards...

Barely beats it he said. LTT only tested 2-3 games and even those were AMD friendly

I mean pretty much every driver issue is anecdotal. I've never had a single issue with a Nvidia driver. AMD drivers I have had crash constantly. Others have it the other way around.

Agreed. NVCP looks like it's from 2004. AMD's looks much nicer. I've always used OBS for recording so I have no experience with Relive and only some with original Shadow Play. NVENC with OBS is pretty sweet.

I missed the original announce as I was on work travels at the time, still haven't fully caught up yet. Is there a consensus amongst reputable reviewers what the relative performance is? 1080p is probably more favourable to nvidia than higher resolutions, although at this performance level I'd guess 1440p60 at decent quality is manageable?

i got a bit lost with the power consumption mentioned in the vid.... According to figures over at Tom's hardware average gaming usage should be around 130 W/h , a bit more then a 1060 and around 100W and hour more then the rx 590 … this should be of concern to any buyer who has hardcore gamingmoments/usage and a green heart right?
