Overclocking Monitors

Geekazoid

Hey guys,

I hear this a lot on here about overclocking a monitor. I didn't even know that you could. I thought overclocking was something that could only be done on a GPU or CPU. So, how on earth do you overclock a monitor?

Software.

EVGA Pixel can do it as well.

Nvidia control panel will allow you to OC a monitor as well.

What exactly does this involve?

I don't really want to walk threw it but it's pretty much (I use nvidia control panel) you'd go into change resolution hit customize and then add custom resolution. from there you'll see refresh rate and you can up that and see if it's stable. I'm running 76Hz on my monitor by doing this from 60Hz stock.

Ahhh okay. Yeah I've done that before. Didn't think that was called OCing. Learn something new every day. :)

well there are different ways of doing as far as I know. With Nvidia cards there are some things you can do to get higher refresh rates as well. Nvidia limits it on GPU's for some on reason or at least they used to.

Oh you know, running 4k on a 1080p monitor.. :P (I only do it for experiments)

Not really overclocking refresh rate (I could), but I went for resolution.

What type of monitor do you have?

Does that even work?

Yep, I added 2560x1440p yesterday to my 1080p panel.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Yes it works, but don't expect to be able to read anything on your desktop. Every monitor differs as well, and not all can reach such resolutions/refresh rates.

I'm using the MX279h (IPS panel)

Your gameplay may also become laggy, and you might not be able to read in-game text if the game doesn't scale.

I have these resolutions that are stable:

I only use it for Gaming, and my desktop stays at 1080p.

BF4 is the game I wanted to try it with, finding out the performance difference.

Older games that I could crank with AA and have performance left over, are also good to try...

See spoiler for Desktop Display Properties PROOF - AMD users - Must disable GPU scaling.

300cd/m2 specified brightness
DVI-D, HDMI, VGA inputs

Really need another 7950, adding 30% more realestate,.. 60fps down to 45fps, adding 50% of the current performance via another 7950 would be great....

Or sell it and reap the R9-290 rewards :)
