Mechanical Switches

JackBoggio

I am coming from a razer membrane keyboard I am about to get into mechanical. I am looking at Cherry speed silvers, are they clicky and good? Any other switch recommendations?

Thanks,

Jack

Really depends on your preference. Do you prefer high-profile & sexy ones? Or are you looking for low-key sleeper ones?

This depends on what you want from your mechanical keyboard.

This seems to be an extremely detailed guide:

They're pretty decent actually. To give you some context, I'm faster on Cherry MX Speeds/Silvers than Cherry MX Blues. Honestly, you should go to a local store that sells mechanical keyboards and try out different key switches, or you could just buy a mechanical switch tester. No one can tell you what switch is perfect for you, you'll have to try out different switches for yourself.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I am pretty sold on the Silvers, but i am wondering about one thing- does anyone know if they are clicky like blues or more like reds and browns?

Cherry MX Speeds/Silvers are linear, so they'll feel more like Cherry MX Reds than Blues or Browns.

They are REALLY light & fast, even lighter than red.

Bullshit.

Mx Speed Silvers actuate the same force as mx reds, but it bottoms out ~70g compared to the 60g of Mx reds, making it closer to mx black than mx red.

Mx silvers and most mx switches in general are scratchy and just very mediocre. Mx Speed Silvers are a light-medium stiffness linear switch and is not clicky. Some other recommendations for good switches are:

Clicky: Box Jades & Other box click bar designs, Matias Click, Zealiostotles

Tactile: Mx ergo clears, Zealios/Zilents, Box Jades, Holy Pandas, Hako True/Clear Royals

Linear: Tealios, Tangerine C3s,  Modern Gateron Linears, Linear Box switches, Kailh Creams

Before buying a keyboard try and do some research, on places like r/mechnicalkeyboards, deskthority, geekhack etc.

You are correct, the force required to move these two switches is the same

But me personally don't bottom out when typing, so for me silver is faster and lighter.

I forgot to clarify that, mb
