what to upgrade

If you're upgrading from a normal SSD, that SSD is still SATA III, you need to get a M.2 NVMe drive.

my laptop currently has a hdd 1tb 7200rpm the prob is ram with only 4gb

I'd upgrade the RAM, then to the SSD.

Upgrade RAM to at least 8GB and add a M.2 SSD (a good SATA model will do)

planning to get a stick of 8 for a total of 12 problem the ram in my laptop is kingston and the other one i bought is G.skill but both are the same speed

Yes, but it will run in Flex mode (partial dual channel), not full dual channel
