Is the RX 580 still king of budget gaming?

SGTechGamer

I was going to build a budget gaming system to upgrade my 4770k to a 2600 with a 580 now reviews say that the 1660  is better?

So which do I go for I have a freesync 1080p monitor

My Main System :  https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hk4pcY (Silverstone Sugo SG13W)

I would still stick with the 580. It can handle 1080p in its sleep. The selling factor tho was the fact that you have that freesync monitor.

I think it depends on the pricing in your country or where you buy it. For me at 180 dolars the rx 580 was the king but I bought it back at early december last year. I can run every game with an i7 3770. And I have a 75hz freesync display too and this thing its sweet. For me if you have the freesync already go with the 580 or 590, with the free games you get its a really good buy. I even run metro exodus at high settings averaging above 60 fps

I thought the new Nvidia cards can do freesync too?

If they can, that's great. I assume that the AMD card is going to be native to freesync.

do you value the free games then? In terms of performance the 1660, when memory is overclocked, matches the 1660Ti making it noticeably faster than the 580 while using less power.

It never was the king. It was always the king's bodyguard. Stronger but doesn't hold the crown. That goes to the rx 570, not the 580. The rx 570 is the best value card on the market and will stay that way until Navi comes along and replaces it. The fact that the rx 570 is still battering Turing at the low end just shows how bad Turing has ended up being. It was a mess when it first came out, the high end lacks vram (6gb on the 2060 and only 8gb on the 2080 is criminal) and the low end is disappointing. In some games the 1660 is only just ahead by like 5 fps. In others it pulls away, but is that really good enough? It's hardly a replacement for the 1060.

For 1080p, the rx 570 is still the king and remains the thorn in Nvidia's side.

If you are willing to buy used, there is no question. You can get a 580 8gb on Ebay for $115. In my area I have seen them locally for $100. You can't get a 1660 used.

Even new they are going for about $170. Not bad for a brand new card with full warranty and not worrying if someone treated it like crap while mining.
