LGA1366 Motherboard

hi new to building a PC the CPU i have is an intel core i7-920 does anybody know anywhere that sells LGA1366 Motherboards and that ships to Australia from a different country

Good luck, LGA1366 boards are becoming increasingly expensive and rare these days.

 

Because it was a top tier platform they never sold in the same numbers as P4 and Athlons of that period so numbers of available parts are low. Ironically old server parts tend to be much cheaper than consumer parts because they sold more servers than anything else.

 

Your best chance of finding a bargains eBay.

IMO it's not worth it to buy a X58 LGA1366 motherboard for a 4c/8t i7-920. X58 are pretty rare and expensive. And for LGA1366 there is many cheap 6c/12t Xeons like the one I have.

 

i7-920 is the slowest i7 for X58 platform.

Agreed with the others. Skip that I7 920 and get a 6 core xeon and overclock the crap out of if. The 32 NM 6 cores what ever it is I7 or a xeon model overclock better than I7 920 and the 6 core models can also handle a stronger GPU.

 

You can take these words from some one that replace a I7 920 to a I7 980X that is more or less identical to a 6 core xeon model. Its worfh it.

About motherboards there are ebay and you cut also try visits your local hardware store that maybe sells used X58 boards. But look out, some times X58 boards tends to be exspensive. But if you look around there will at a time turn one up to a good price.

 

I will reccomend you go after boards from gigabyte, EVGA or asus. I have only had exspirience with Asus and i am more than happy with the two boards i have had. Also if possible, try look out for a second gen X58 board because these has two sata 3 ports and two USB 3.0 ports. The first gen only has sata 2 and USB 2.0.
