Intel i7 8700 Temperature Issues

So I have owned my PC for around 6 months or so now, but have just been so worried about my CPU temperatures and performance the whole time. I previously created a thread about this but I kinda just got mixed responses and I have since tried the suggestions but still have concerns.

 

PC Specs:

Case: NZXT  H700

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700

CPU Cooler: Cryorig H7

 

So one of my problems is the temperatures just seem too high. These are the average temperatures I get:

Cold Boot BIOS Temperature: 35 degrees celcius

Idle Temperature: 40-45 degrees celcius

Gaming Temperature: 65-80 degrees celcius

Full Load / Stress Test Temperature: 80-90 degrees celcius

 

I have attached a photo of the location of my PC, which is under my desk and fairly enclosed. I am not sure how much this would affect the airflow of my PC, and overall the temperature.

 

When I first got my PC I manually set my CPU Core voltage to 1.2V as it was automatically setting it to almost 1.4V which is ridiculously high.

 

I am unsure if this is related to temperature, or my BIOS power settings for the CPU, but I noticed during stress tests I get power throttling.

 

Also, I noticed when gaming and stress testing, my CPU turbo speed dips below the usual 4.28 GHz max speed that I usually get. I don't understand why it can't maintain a stable max turbo speed.

 

So overall, the temperature issue, power throttling and turbo speed reduction are the issues that are concerning me. Could someone please give me some advice on what I should do? Thanks in advance.

Have you checked to make sure your setting of 1.2 has stuck?

How close is the back of the PC to the rear of the enclosure? Could be recycling warmer air.

 

Is the move to this location new? Is the inside very dusty? (The top looks pretty dusty which is why I ask.)

because current limit is set too low. Go into the BIOS and raise all power/current limits as high as possible (or just 999).

Studying abroad, ditched the crappy laptop for a do-all laptop double. Dried factory CPU paste, long memory timings, cooler cools the inductors but not the mosfets and an inch of unused internal space on both left and right

The best thing to do is reading the clock speed that doesnt end in a pair of zeros. Software voltage readings are wrong if your motherboard's not a high end model

Results: Cinebench R15 Single thread:159 Multi-thread: 770 (thx Meltdown Spectre patch) Super Pi (v1.5 from Techpowerup, PI value output) 16K: 0.11s 1M: 8.4s 32M: 7m 45.9s

Try reapplying thermal paste or replace the cooler, with something better like Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO!

 

All know Intel's stock coolers are shit for Extreme Gaming and CPU intensive tasks!

 

But, first, before buying cooler make sure you replace your thermal paste!

Yes, I double checked and it still seems to be applied correctly.

It is around 6 inches or so from the back of the desk, so it probably would be possible it is recycling some warm air. This location has been the same since I got my PC, so around 6 months. I checked last night and it turned out it was quite dusty, especially on the intake fan filters so I gave them all a clean and it seems the temperature has dropped slightly by a few degrees, but nothing major.

If I raise the power limits, will this increase my temperature by much? I am a bit worried about doing this. Why is it so low in the first place anyways, I thought it would be set to a limit that can at least sustain it's max turbo speed.

 

1. It has the default fan setup of the NZXT H700. 3 intake fans at the front, with 1 exhaust at the back.

2. Really? I chose 1.2V because I found someone said to set it to that. But if it can be set to 1.1V, I would definitely be willing to try that. I don't know much about adapative mode and how I should set that up, I heard that it can tend to use a higher voltage than what is set though, so I am a bit worried about that.

3. I considered this when I reinstalled the cooler after I first got the PC and the PC Shop had installed it. I was worried it was not installed correctly as I was getting the same temperatures, so I did it myself and got the same sort of temperatures.

I have already tried reinstalling the cooler, but I got no better temperatures than what they were with the PC Shop's install of it.

No it won't, just a little.

 

With offset mode (adaptive only changes voltage past 3.2GHz, not exactly the way for an undervolt), just start with no offset (or a tiny negative number), run stress test (I only test for 1 minute at this point). If it's stable, drop the offset by 0.02V or 20mV and redo the stress test again. Keep on doing this until it does freeze/crash, then take the number 40mV higher than the one you crashed on as the target for long term stress test (an hour should do).

 

Does the thermal paste cover up everything? I mean, even Hyper 212 do better which is weaker than the H7

1.24 volts. Anything lower and I'm not 100% stable.

What about power limits for the CPU? Because I'm getting power throttled with turbo speeds at whatever my motherboard has set the power limits to.

uhhh idk I run with BLCK OC to 4.4 and it's rock solid, but I'm running an Asus Prime Z370 A
