Capable HTPC?

My work just gave me an Dell 3040 Micro Form Factor i3 6100t 8gb RAM with an SSD (haven't gotten to plug it in yet don't know which or how big, says Windows PRO so not sure which variation of OS is on it yet either) I know the chip has onboard graphics(Intel HD 530), can this be a reliable HTPC for streaming at 1080p?  I cant for the life of me see why not but just curious.  My current HTPC is more than enough but figure I can find a use case for this free little PC I just got.

Thank you!  Im not versed at all on streaming videos and what gets taxed on systems when its happening (other than interwebs juice, some CPU juice, and some GPU juice lol) - appreciate the insight.

Im very uninformed when it comes to resolutions than the PC side (1600x900 master race - then everyone else haha)  What is H265 since it was brought to light?

Video codec. It's meant to compress video more efficiently than h264 at the cost of needing more computational performance to drive.


Volume / Normalized 100% / 89% (content loudness 1.0dB)

Gotcha!!!  Makes sense - appreciate your time.  Is there options within a GPU/CPU to choose the codec (if google will be easy on me figuring it out I can do that too just easier to ask you first since you seem to be in the know!) and is there a reason I should choose one over the other?  Better lines vs more power draw cause computational power being used or?

The video that you choose will already be encoded in whatever either you or the person who encoded it decided to choose. If you encode something via, say, Handbrake and compress that into h265, then it'll be compressed in that codec.
