Most IT outages are caused by someone making a mistake, that's just how it is. DDOS isn't really that common and when the target is a facebook sized company no one is going to be able to cause a world wide outage using DDOS.

I find it troubling that one of the largest tech companies to ever exist experience a 14 hour outage. My local plumber's website could be back up and running quicker than that.

Didn't even notice there was an outage :P Facebook lost it's appeal to me a long time ago with all the crap they pull on users nowadays. Only reason i have it still is for those select few people where it's the only place i have contact with them still.
