2way SLI GTX 1070 G-Sync and AVR usage for a 4-monitor setup

Hi everyone,


Been struggling with this plan for few months now, not really able to make a solid conclusion from answers I've been getting from both nvidia support and another nvidia fan forum.

I'll try to make it as short as possible, and I'd really appreciate if you'd be so kind to help an old gamer who just wants to get back to some good old gaming after a long while... and with some $$$ to spend to make it happen :-D


I want to build a gaming rig with 2 1070's I have (Asus Strix 8GB OC), an ASUS PRIME Z370-A motherboard and an AVR which supports the higher-end lossless HDMI 2.0 audio formats such as Dolby Atmos.

I want to have 3 monitors for gaming stacked from 3 side-by-side 27" 1440p GSYNC enabled monitors. they will be connected in a mode called '3D surround' for a full 7680 X 1440 resolution. most importantly and here's the bait here, I would wish that while gaming in 7680 X 1440 resolution on these 3 monitors, the effects of GSYNC would be seen on all 3 monitors.

Now finally throw in an additional 'accessory monitor' right in the middle above the '3D surround' monitors. the accessory monitor will be connected from AVR's HDMI output so that I would be able to get the lossless audio by connecting one of the 1070's HDMIs into the AVR.


Now here are some basic facts which I've found on official nvidia support sites:

1. GTX 1070 supports Dolby Atmos via HDMI, so should be no problem here getting the lossless audio to the AVR.
2. 2way SLI GTX 1070 supports: 3D surround for 3 GSYNC monitors via 2Xdisplayport on 1070 #1 and 1Xdisplayport on 1070 #2, with additional 'accessory monitor' via HDMI on 1070 #1 or 1070 #2. and GSYNC effects while gaming should appear on all 3 surround monitors. There are other mixes of the GPUs outputs to be able to connect the monitors in '3D surround' but I need to use displayport if I want to get GSYNC...
I took the 2 facts above from these links:

Actually, not sure I got the correct fact #2 above, because nvidia support told me something different from what I understood from the 2nd link above, and they are very confusing with their answers. I can share their answers if it can contribute.

So my desired monitor setup:
#1 - 3D surround GSYNC monitor: displayport #1 on 1070 #1 > GSYNC monitor

#2 - 3D surround GSYNC monitor: displayport #2 on 1070 #1 > GSYNC monitor

#3 - 3D surround GSYNC monitor: displayport #1 on 1070 #2 > GSYNC monitor

#4 - Accessory Monitor: HDMI #1 on 1070 #1 or #2 > AVR HDMI input > AVR HDMI output > Regular monitor

Total of 4 monitors;

3 monitors for 3D surround and all of them running with GSYNC while gaming at 7680 X 1440.

1 monitor as accessory monitor.


I want to eventually get the following 3 functionalities, if it's possible.

  1. Dolby Atmos on AVR driven from my 1070's HDMI into AVR HDMI INPUT

  2. 3D surround monitors, all 3 running with GSYNC in games(my monitors are listed here as supported: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/))

  3. Accessory monitor DRIVEN FROM AVR HDMI OUTPUT acting as regular monitor not belonging to 3D surround monitors(I DON'T MIND if the accessory monitor will be primary or not, AS LONG AS it doesn't degrade/misfunction the 3D surround monitors performance nor their GSYNC capabilities)



It could be really awesome if I could somehow magically find an opportunity to test this :)

I really hope to get any help to be able to arrive to more concrete conclusions.

Not sure what you mean by AVC (Audio/Video Recorder) so a capture card? (unless you mean ARC Which is just way different)

Generally this means that you need to run your physical outputs through the card individually. Something like bandicam would be able to record all the displays as 1, but that's running internally and you'll be pushing the system as it is. 


I'm not sure as to why you are running the accessory monitor through the AVR. 



If you could clear it up that'd be Great. 

Do you mean you want your gsync monitor and your ACC monitor to run simultaneously?

Are you specifically wanting Dolby Atmos support for you ACC monitor or something?

Do you have any issues with your triple gsync surround setup without the ACC monitor?

I didn't mean to record anything :) AVR also stands for Audio/Video Reciever. I plan to use it as active drive for my passive speakers in 5.2.1 Atmos.

Now the setup I want is quite complex, as I want gsync to work in nvidia's "3D surround" 7680 X 1440 resolution (via displayports in very certain output mix in SLI as I've described), while having an HDMI Audio to AVR + HDMI Video to the ACC monitor (without audio to ACC monitor).

I've described in detail the setup and connections, let me know there is anything else specific you wish to clarify.
