I just heard yesterday Intel hired for a new position to help improve their Integrated Graphics for the community. They hired Chris Pirillo - a tech (software) enthusiast from Seattle, WA.

Personally I think Intel bringing on someone directly from the community is beneficial as they don't have as much as a bias for (or against) Intel and allows these incoming comments to be more critical and constructive. The only drawback I see is Chris is a software guy, he never has been big on hardware. I can see this being an issue when it comes to development ideas as something a hardware enthusiast may see right away might fly right under his radar. But being a Mac person I see this as a benefit as many Apple computers rely directly on Intel Integrated Graphics, but this does draw back on the low end PC consumer market who rely on Integrated Graphics.

funny, but nothing new

 

many pro overclockers for example regularly get hired to look into coolers, motherboards, cases, things like that

 

but that's my opinion on it

Is this the guy that had a chat with Linus in a very old video, possibly at some trade event?

 

It is an interesting approach Intel are taking, with recruiting from the more public side of the tech community.

 

Maybe I misread elsewhere, but I understood the position to be about Intel graphics in general, not limited to integrated graphics. I feel they're getting things in place for their higher end offerings that are under construction.

This may very well be... but I haven't seen much from Intel Graphics other than their integrated graphics, so I had just assumed that the integrated graphics portion was implied. Or that Chris may not have been in the loop of the attempts to have a more professional graphics, him being a more of a software person.

Doesnt matter intel's iGPU's are trash, cant even compete with entry level dGPU, all this technology improvements and thats all they can do. Even mobile phones can do better.

The intel iGPU's aren't meant for gaming or to compete with a dGPU, though I think this could be related to Intel wanting to compete with AMD and Nvidia dGPU's.

Which isn't the point of Intel's iGPUs. The point is to avoid the dGPU altogether to appease to the system builders who don't want the added cost of a separate graphics card. Because let's face it, a vast majority of people who use computers don't need a dGPU.

Running a Ryzen CPU and a Nvidia GTX 1070 (in my streaming/editing PC) I find a Intel dGPU intriguing - maybe a performance bump for things like video rendering (if they can develop something along the lines of CUDA cores). If they could figure out how to efficiently get both the CPU and dGPU to work in tandem for things like rendering that pin the CPU to the wall and offload more of it to the dGPU to speed up rendering times I'd be happy - kinda like crossfire or SLI/nvlink dGPU internally.

This is one of the most pretentious facades I have ever seen. Intel has proven over the years with their shitty business practices to be extremely anti-consumer and will always put their profits above all else.

CPU security vulnerabilities? Why bother fixing it when they can just tell you to buy a new one after screwing you around with multiple versions of flopped windows updates.

New generation of CPU? Of course they will force you to buy a new motherboard even though it's a marginal update on an already existing architecture with superficial differences.

Want more than 4 cores? Just pay twice the price and upgrade to the HEDT platform so they can milk every last dime from you.

The competition is offering a vastly superior price to performance product? Who cares when they can charge you double for a single digit percentage performance advantage and stamp an Intel logo on it.

7nm? How about 10 revisions of 14nm and a rerelease of the depricated 28nm process.

"5ghz, 28 core CPU"? They just conveniently forgot to mention the marketing ploy was complete bullshit and that there was a massive impractical water chiller under the display.

And the list goes on...


That aside, I have no idea who this guy is but if he actually named his child "jedi" it's pretty damn hard to take him seriously as I've never seen a more obvious attention grab.

At the end of the day this hire is meaningless and quite frankly the only ones being fooled are fan boys lacking the ability to think logically.
