Shadow of War (ability: Shadow Strike)

I want to purchase that upgrade, BUT, I don't want the upgrade itself. I want of the side upgrades only. If I activate the side upgrade called Shadow Dominate, will it ONLY activate that upgrade, or will it activate the parent upgrade called Shadow Strike as well?
