Just a heads up to OP: this guide is for a normal 3DS XL, not the New 3DS XL, but most points will be the same deal. Some things might differ (for example, I know for sure you'll have one more ribbon cable at the very least; the NFC amiibo reader).

Be very careful with the flip tabs (particularly where the smaller ribbon cables plug in) as these are somewhat flimsy when you try to open them to the wrong way around; be sure to check with each which way they open.

Also be careful with small items like the springs the shoulder buttons probably use.

Is it? It's on the "New 3DS XL" page on iFixit's site. Damn you confusing naming schemes. Well here's the full page for any other required tinkering.

Wait, no.. I think you're right, sorry.

I was just a little confused by the lack of 'new' (literally have never seen anyone call it the '3DS XL 2015', so I assumed it was the regular 3DS XL, not the New model).

Anyways, looking at the guide this repair is pretty straightforward; seeing as it's mainly just unplugging and unscrewing stuff. The only more difficult things would be the tiny flaps on the ribbon cables and the last step(s) involving the removal of the touch digitizer.

Looks like the shoulder buttons stay in place with the top shell.
