It turns out that these photos aren't taken with the P30 or P30 Pro even though the marketing campaign strongly implies otherwise. A reader of ours found one of the images in a professional photographer's portfolio and it's needless to say it's taken with a DSLR camera. The photo with the erupting volcano was also spotted online and has been taken almost a decade ago in 2009.

 

Personal thought:

Why am I not surprised... I'm sure most people would know DSLR is better equipped for photography (duh). Not stating it clearly is just misleading. And if you're going to be a dick, at least put some effort into it. Use one that aren't on the web...

 

Also, sorry for the Verge's link. It was where I saw it first from Chrome's suggestions. Stefan (the writer) is the thermal paste guy btw.

Excellent cost control there. Last time they got caught taking the picture with a DSLR themselves and use it in ads, now they decide to just use some old pictures in the internet for a long time.

you know how damn easy it would have been for them to just ask someone to walk outside and take ANY PICTURE OF ANYTHING and use that instead?

I argue it might have actually been faster to walk outside and take a new picture of something than it was to find a picture online that nobody might have noticed was a stolen picture. pure laziness there

The source said these images strongly imply they were taken by the Huawei P30 Pro, in my opinion, this is no different than Apple implying their iPhone X has a full screen display and they received next to no backlash for it.

 

 

As you can probably tell, I have a lot of disdain towards the above images.

I agree, other companies do the same with edited photos,and I could care less as most phones take more than good enough photos.

I doubt they'd fall in the near future. They have the backing of the Chinese Communist Party and 1.3 billion people's wealth. Even with all the western countries banning them, they'd still have African and Asian market, which is huge.

Huawei, along with Xiaomi and numerous other Chinese electronics companies, are being accused of stealing IP from Apple, Samsung and other tech companies. Whether or not these accusations are accurate is up to debate.

i wasnt going to buy that huawei phone because i thought if i take a photo with it its going to have the magnifying glass thing in the middle with everything else blurred out but now that i learned from the article that those arent actually the photos taken by the phone i can buy the huawei phone without worry

 

jokes aside i understand the earlier backlash on another ad campaign when they said the photos were shot on their phone when they werent but here they didnt say the photos were shot on the phone. you are telling me that people seriously thought they went to an erupting volcano and took a picture and then it erupted again and they look a picture of it again using the zoomed in feature

If I'm not mistaken, "Shot on Apple" allows for use of add-on lenses. So a bit misleading, but nowhere near Huawei's level of bullshit.

Here is a screen shot showing the origin of the picture posted on Weibo. By looking at the pictures, any sane people will not think these photos are taken by a smartphone camera, as long as he/she has used a smartphone camera before.

I honestly don't see how this is misleading. They are artistic posters.

Not only that but the Post Processing detail loss was so abhorrently bad that I wouldnt recommend it either way. But that sort of smoothing has a huge market in some parts of the world so **shrugs** guess we are all stuck with Linus's kid having teeth within teeth.
