For  gaming  which hardisk to buy? Seagate 8TB Barracuda Pro 7200RPM or WD Black 6TB Performance Hard Drive - 7200 RPM?

A 500GB SSD?

Why would you need those specifically for gaming?

 

If you need that much storage you should probably do some kind of SSD cache for that hard drive.

It's a hard drive, so it's slower than SSD, and can matter a lot for load times depending on the game.

Why such a large hard drive?

You can buy a 1TB SSD instead for around $100 and just rotate them as needed

I agree. Nowadays a hard drive specifically for gaming is an oxymoron. You'd never want to play your games on an HDD when SSD space is so cheap. A better combo would be a 256GB or 500GB SSD where you keep your OS and your main games, and then store everything else on a 1-3TB HDD for mass storage. Your PC and games will feel so much faster and you won't really run into any compromises. With 256GB I don't feel super restricted with my 1TB HDD, if I had 500GB, I would think even for someone super into gaming you'd still be set.

It's like 1000 GB / 50-100GB per game for 1TB

Probably like 40-60 AAA title games downloaded and ready to play. Thats like $3000 in games. Who even rotates 10 games heavily in a week/month. Some games are large. Some small. I can download all 150 of my games on 1TB.

You can just delete games you don't play anymore...Unless this is some kind of emulation box where you're trying to archive all of the PS2/Gamecube and older games

In any event most 7200RPM hard drives are going to be the same.

There's various SSD cache solutions to speed them up

It's a hard drive, it's always going to be pretty slow, especially since it has moving parts.

I know, here's what a 970 Evo NVME SSD looks like, but you don't need an NVME SSD for games, a standard Sata SSD will be fine at 500 read writes
