Best Budget Phone under $250?

zombienerd

I'm looking for a new phone.  USA, Verizon network (but I prefer a phone that has radios to work on multiple networks in case I decide to switch).  Must be unlocked, 32gb storage minimum.  Bigger screen is better.

I don't care if it has a big bezel, is thick, etc.  As long as it has power, quick charging capability, and a headphone jack, I'm happy.

I currently use the Motorola G4, which has been a great phone.  I've been looking at the Moto G6, but I hear it's not *quite* as good as the G4 was at launch.

I'd love your input!

Your best bet might be a Samsung J3. Not the best, but a brand new phone at that price point that's compatible with CDMA (Verizon/Sprint) bands is next to impossible these days.

That doesn't even come close to the specs on the G6.  Price is good, but that 720x1280 display makes me want to cry :P

I have a moto z play and I like it alot.

It has great build quality,  super solid,  amazing battery,  I get around 10 hours screen on time,  people report up to 14, has a headphone jack, and fast charging.

Here is a verizon unlocked one I found on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-Moto-Z-Play-Droid-Black-Verizon-Smartphone-Factory-Unlocked/282807099128?hash=item41d89ddef8%3Ag%3A8hIAAOSw2tFaWQI8%3Asc%3AUSPSFirstClass!95842!US!-1&LH_ItemCondition=1000

If you can verify that every Verizon moto z play comes factory unlocked,  then there is this one for $184 brand new

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-Motorola-Moto-Z-Play-Droid-XT1635-1-VERIZON-Smartphone-Black-32GB/233132190298?hash=item3647c2ea5a%3Ag%3AogAAAOSwaqtcZCuW&LH_ItemCondition=1000

the seller doesn't say unlocked,  but from what I've seen every verizon moto z play seems to be unlocked

There are also moto z2 play (the second gen of moto z play) that you can find for under $250 sometimes,  you need the Verizon unlocked version for your needs

Verizon Unlocked XT1710-02

The z2 play has a weaker battery than the z play but some better features like a better camera.

Would you be against getting a refurbished Samsung S8? That’s pretty damn near perfect phone.

Hadn't heard of it, but just looked, and it was over budget.

Hadn't seen that one either, but could have been in the running.

I ended up picking up the Moto G6 after all.  4GB Ram / 64GB Storage version.  I'm quite happy with it so far.
