Overclocking hz

Vod

Hello!

So I was just playing around with radeon settings and I changed the displays hz to 90 and it worked fine.

So I got wondering how far can I push this.

I've got an amd card (rx 580) and an 1080p 75hz freesync monitor ( the ACER ED242QR to be exact ).

And what are the pros and cons to overclocking an monitor.

Don't know of any cons but, I'd say push it as far as it let's ya. Mine is a 60Hz panel Overclocked to 80Hz.

I've heard it can damage your monitor

As far as I know, modern displays should be fine but, I'm not sure so look around just in case. I got mine to 80Hz and, it works completely fine.

I'd just push it until it says "input not supported" and try to tweak it a little from there.

Mine, for example, didn't want to do 80 so I had to do 79.600 or something like that and, it converted itself up to 80Hz.

Sometimes they freak out and flicker or have artifacts. My 1080p dell s2240m can do 71hz i think. My asus vx24ah can't overclock at all and after a while flickers and just turns off the panel randomly. The msi ge72 i used to have could do 83hz just fine on a 60hz panel. For some reason it wouldn't show anything past 83hz on the display settings but it had no problems.

Hi, I was wondering about this since long time but I don't feel I need it so I never asking about this.. But this topic makes me more curious.. How can people overclock their monitor?

I've never heard about overclocking a monitor before. Is it by tweaking something on the monitor itself or is there something else?

You can go into the NVIDIA Control Panel and set a custom resolution under the Display setting.

Select your monitor and click on your current resolution then click on customize like so:

That will bring you up the menu where you can create a custom resolution.

If you just want to play with the refresh rates then, keep your current resolution and change the refresh rate only.

Note: My monitor wouldn't push flat 80 but, a random 79.xxx value did work so, it converted itself up to 80Hz.

You  cant damage a monitor by 'overclocking', just as u cant damage a CPU or GPU by overclocking. What damages CPU's and GPU's is overvolting, and you cant overvolt a Display via software.

A overclock on a monitor will either work or it wont. Its usualy limited by the controller, you force it to run as fast as it can untill it can no longer push the information out. but it wont be damaged.
