Mac Hard Drive Replacment Error

I have a Mid-2009 Mac that previously had a 1TB mechanical drive in it. Long story short that drive failed so I bought a Crucial MX500 SSD and put that in there. Made a OS X Install flash drive.

 

 

I boot into disk utility and attempt to partition the drive and I receive an "Unable to write to the last block of the device" error when I try to create a new partition.

 

Any Suggestions?

I mean what type of mac? Power Mac G5s can use only 1 model and brand of SSD.

Mid - 2009 Macbook pro

Format the drive outside of your mac with a usb to sata adapter.

I don't have a USB to Sata.

 

What if I plug it into a pc and and try to format it using the PC?

You can use HFS+ formatter in windows such as paragon, but i'm not sure about the compability.

You can also use a hackintosh running in VMware, go search the torrent for "VMware hackintosh Intel or AMD".

Load it up in vmware / virtualbox, and format the disk from there.

Boot it, select parted magic (it would say linux base when it boots) then format your drive from there.

Someone recommended on a different forum to just use the Windows Disk Management and go about with formatting using NTFS then put it back in the mac and try to wipe it. And it should be accepted after being formatted elsewhere.

Yeah why not, you can try it, yes it would see the partition and you can erase it.

But the parted magic cd i think is the best.

Very annoying problem cant believe they didn't fix it yet. When I was upgrading and repairing macs I had this problem so often. They only way to resolve it is to use an other mac to format the disk in disk utility. Disk utility in the recovery just doesn't seem to work well. 

If that doesn't work try formatting it first in an other file system (exfat or fat 32), sometimes after that worked it will allow you to format it for mac os.

So for anyone having this problem in the future;

 

I ended up buying a SATA to USB cable and connected the drive to another mac I had. Formatted it and installed the OS from there then transferred it back to the mac with the broken drive and it all worked well.
