Anthem on PS4 And Xbox causing hard crashes, reports of bricking

Sovek

And people still support this dumpster fire? And apparently hard crashes could kill your console, not surprising since its using a HDD and I have had first hand experience where a hard shutdown results in corruption of the OS.  And since its Sony we're talking about its not like you can just re-install your OS. And IIRC the HDD is tied to the motherboard so if it suffers a platter crash... well you are really screwed.

Edit: Please dont roast me on the mis-information. I was going off Xbox repair vids, people have already corrected me.

You can swap your PS4 hard drive, its not tied to anything. Its simple and easy upgrade and actually the most recommended change on the PS4.

Then I'm thinking the Xbone. I remember watching one repair channel mention that the HDD was linked to the motherboard in the console so you couldn't do a simple swap. Considering SSD prices, might not be a bad idea to grab a 500GB SSD for the PS4.

I have a 2tb SSHD in my PS4 Pro myself.

You can reinstall your OS. You can go to Sony website and download the system recovery image and it'll reinstall the OS from a USB. Done this multiple times on PS4s/PS3s

RAM: 32GB 3600MHz

HDD: 1TB Sabrent NVMe -  WD 1TB Black - WD 2TB Green -  WD 4TB Blue

MB: Gigabyte  B550 Gaming X- RGB Disabled

PSU: Corsair RM850x 80 Plus Gold

Case: BeQuiet! Silent Base 801 Black

Cooler: Noctua NH-DH15

Hä?!
What the heck are you talking about?!
You can download the "fresh installation" file from the Sony website.

So yeah, you're wrong here?!

That's not how it works...

You "just" loose the data on there but you can always make a backup of the content to any FAT32 or exFAT formatted device.

Yes but you can not put your HDD in another Playstation that sadly does not work.

Even on the XBox its not really true. You can replace the HDD there as well, though its a lot of hassle.

And I don't even like the XBox one, especially the XBox fans that downplay the issues with the shop and oversell/hype the features of the console. And even outright lie about the features...

Though its not a minor issue, that's some hard shit.

BUT: The Halo Master Chief Collection also locks up the XBox One from time to time.

While it is a big issue, its not as big as you claim.

Especially with HDDs its not that bad, with SSDs its worse...

This is why I love older consoles. If the HDD needs to be locked, if the console's security has been broken you can zero the console's HDD lock, meaning that it's bloody easy to back it and put a new one in.

Note that zeroing the key reuired being able to flash the BIOS/TSOP so yeah....

How can it be worse on HDDs?

And I stand corrected about the consoles, not my thing, just didn't expect sony to be.... nice about it.

You loose the data of all the blocks you access when the power goes down.

WIth HDDs only the thing you access is lost.

They didn't change anything since the PS3...

The XBox 360 needed some special drives, though you could flash some (WD) HDDs. SSDs are IIRC not possible on the 360.

I have no idea how it was with the PS2 FAT and the Network Adaptor...

A coworker of mine has complained that their PS4 Pro has been acting up over the last couple weeks, including a full on crash and reboot in one occasion. He plays Anthem on it, and he just installed a 1TB SSHD back in December...

Might mention this to him.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Seems like a common issue that it crashes.

There Bioware has done some really bad shit...

@Sovek Might want to add that it also happens on XBox One as well...

Seriously? I've only seen the info on the PS4's had no clue this extended to Xbox as well, but there are threads in the reddit..... *sigh*

And as per usual, the fanboys are going "This game is so much more fun than TD2 even though loot is better over there".... this is a LOOTER SHOOTER. You're meant to get loot. Not play the same 3 missions over and over and over trying to get something semi-decent. I get that BL2 could be like that at times, but by the end of the day you could at least stand to find something decent. From the sounds of it Anthem players are getting crap. I've watched plenty of gameplay of it and it just looks like a shooter, only once did I see anyone get loot, and it didn't even tell you what you got.

no, the OP corrected there statement. Originally they stated that because of the crash it could damage the system and crash the drive and the OP didnt think the drive in the PS4 was replaceable when in fact it is.

I know this is off topic but I’m curious as to why you think this way. Would you prefer game creators waited until their game was 100% ready before releasing? Or release early so you can play and patch it as they go? Just curious is all as I work in software development and the industry trend is to release as early as possible and adjust as you go.

Dunno about you but I remember that games got worked on to a "Gold" state that was as bug-free as the dev team could make it prior to lockdown time to be sent off to publishing, then if it was a PC title it might get a patch here or there to fix game-breaking edge case glitches (or change content like the infamous DOOM level with a Swastika) but was otherwise left alone until time came to add more new content with expansion packs (which came with bug fixes for edge cases that might have cropped up post-launch of original product and been encountered during the expansion development).

Flipside: Not all problems with a game can be worked out and patched without reworking the game from the ground-up (see Diablo II/Lord of Destruction's AI for your followers being little dumb shits more often than not). You can guess how much it might cost to go back and redo that sort of work when it's otherwise in a "good enough" state (eg: Bethesda's 3D First/Third person titles in Fallout and Elder Scrolls).

As for Anthem, I've heard from people it's not just consoles getting stuffed up by the game, but regular desktops too (though, honestly, not much difference between consoles and PC nowadays anyways).
