Bypass Tether Data Throttling with VPN?

My current carrier in Xfinity mobile which advertises throttling on tethered data while using an unlimited plan. I'm wondering if using a VPN on my phone would prevent the carrier from seeing what type of data it was and therefore prevent throttling. This is of course dependent on how the carrier tells whether the data is tethered or not. Would this possibly work?

Educated guess but they probably just assume anything that isn't definitely untethered data is tethered data, which would imply no. You can give it a try and see if it works though.

I have their by the gig plan currently since I hardly use a GB in a month. :P I was considering switching to unlimited for a month when I'm travelling though.
