Leaking.

Hi All,

I've been happily running my AIO for about half a year now and this morning the overheating protection switched off my system.

Took a couple of tries to start it again it reads 100° on the cpu (and i think the reading maxes out there).

I opened it up and found this some green gunk at the bottom of the block.

I took the block off but left it connected. When briefly switching on it does whir but it spins up very quickly like it has no resistance from the liquid.

Im thinking it leaked out slowly and most liquid evaporated. There are a few drops on the graphics card slot too.

Are these things fixable or should i replace? It's a cooler master M240L.

Is this how reliable these things usually are?

Thanks for your insights.

Dump the cooler (fixing a underperforming one like the ML240L is a waste of time), take the graphics card out and clean the residue on the card and motherboard.

usually 2-3 years if not longer, it depends on model and vendor though and can vary greatly. ML240L is worryingly cheap in the first place so I'm not expecting much.

I've owned several and never had a leak myself.

1: replace it (I would replace it and then take it apart to attempt to find the source of the leak for my own curiosity)

2: clean the residue up with some alcohol, cotton balls and Q-tips

3: You're very fortunate that the leak did not cause any electrical shorts in the system.

4: just curious, but is your radiator mounted above or below the pump in your system?

Thank you! The radiator is mounted below the block which is a lucky choice I guess. I'm not in the habit of looking into my pc so it would have a leaked more yet go unnoticed for a much longer time had the radiator been up top.

Aye, it means you lost less fluid before the pump starved and the system overheated. Definitely a fortunate occurance.

I guess that would be the one benefit of mounting the radiator below the pump, leaks at the pump will leak less fluid.

And luck it surely was. There is no place in the case to mount above.

Thanks for the advice. Im shopping for an air cooler now.
