But yeah when it comes to gaming, you gotta give credit to Microsoft for DirectX in Windows 10 and supports both AMD and NVIDIA cards. Apple only supports AMD.

Heck, even when it’s open I see no reason for it to eat up 1.7GB of RAM.

My god. I swear this happened to me too, I couldn't figure out why, I just ended up disabling every windows metro app

I didn't have OneDrive enabled too, so idk what the hell was it doing

Wow thats weird, i've never had that happen, I wonder if its some stupid 1809 bug.

I also think quite a few apps use way too much ram, like Firefox using about 5GB or Spotify shouldn't need 400mb to stream music.

Well, here goes any doubt as to whether Apple still cares about the "creative" crowd - they don't. I think there's a place for ARM based PCs (though I wouldn't buy an ARM based Mac any more than I'd buy an Intel based one) but not in that space, at least not for the time being. Personally I see the potential for ARM based systems as a cheaper and less power hungry alternative to x86 counterparts, not as underpowered luxury items.

 

I wish they'd have gone for RISC-V though, that's what I'd love to use a few years from now.

I got an album folder for this kind of things Windows does. Always happened on all windows versions

I haven't looked that much into it, but from what I've gathered there are very little standardization for hardware interfaces, and how they get passed and handled by the kernel.

It's the reason why you can't just take an Android ISO and install it on any phone, like you can with GNU/Linux or Windows and install it on any x86 PC.

 

I don't think it's performance, efficiency or cost holding ARM back. It's a lack of standardization as well as a very unhealthy drive by manufactures to keep things proprietary. I mean, why would for example Qualcomm want to make their SoCs replaceable by some other chip? They would rather make it so the OS developer has to code specifically for their chip, making it a pain in the ass to change to some other chip vendor.

 

 

 

A majority of new super computers being built today are using ARM. The standardization doesn't matter as much as it's all custom anyways

Read where i said that the entire software stack built by random people xorg, wayland, DE's, compositors etc are not stable or low resource usage and they will never be. And when i mean stable i dont mean you boot to desktop and it works, i mean switching multi windows, high refresh/high resolution multi-monitors, games, graphical apps and so on they behave like shit, lock up freeze or need restart quite often on all distros on all hardware.

 

Yes linux kernel is very good, and can be very stable as desktop OS but it needs a platform developed as one not random components that dont work togheter well, we need something like android where all the API, UI, security etc built on top of the kernel is unified and works flawless.

Yes linux kernel is very good, and can be very stable as desktop OS but it needs a platform developed as one not random components that dont work togheter well, we need something like android where all the API, UI, security etc built on top of the kernel is unified and works flawless.

I can tell that you don't know much about operating systems.

I would recommend you stay away from the subject until you have done some reading up on it.

I'm going on a stretch here, but I guess this is not going to be for all the lineup, and it mostly means mobile not top of the line.

 

i don't see the Pro line doing this, i hardly doubt that software developer of high-end software that runs on mac will be lining up to having a new branch of their software and optimizing for a new cpu platform.

I  am very informed about OS'es and what i said is true linux as desktop OS is not a unified platform as it should be in order to work, its mostly random components developed by random people that dont collaborate to make a unified layer on top of the kernel that can properly handle the apps and user UI,input, audio etc. Which is why to this day you cant get fractional DPI scaling and per display DPI scaling or a mouse wheel scroll ammount or wheel click in a browser, or a compositor that can render windows at per display refresh rate, if you have two 144hz + 60hz monitors compositors lock at lowest refresh and stuttering heavily, windows solved this issues since 7 or probably vista too.

That sounds irrelevant my point is no one is obligated to develop these features, if someone decided to implement such any feature in a component but xorg or wayland doesnt have support yet they cant collaborate and make it happen which is why linux as desktop OS is very poor and lags a decade behind MacOS,Windows, Android in terms of features and stability.

 

Thats why Windows, Android, MacOS works so well, the companies behind them fully control the entire platform stack if they decide to implement a new DirectX or Metal or specific feature they can appoint entire teams to develop it at every level required. Linux will never have that, Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse etc all use the same random components developed by other people, and they have no control over their development and features.

 

I still hope google one day will port Android to x86 desktop and make the app store available to everyone, just like Apple is probably going to do, but they will do it by moving Mac to arm instead of porting iOS to x86 Mac. Altough im not sure how will that work, Mac is used by a lot of developers and artists and the pro apps they use might not work on ARM.

my newest computer that I use every day is a 2012 MacBook Pro. I wouldn't mind an ARM Mac. given that Apple's chips are already way faster than my MBP I wouldn't mind at all. 

 

let's just hope they're cheaper than Intel Mac's.
