What are Ingest Stations?

I'm more into computers and networking than media, I was wondering what the ingest stations are used for, and what ingesting actually is, in general.

Ingestion is for getting data from a form of storage such as the RED Mini mags (essentially SSD's) or external hard drives onto a local network. Say like you have a hard drive with a game on it that you want on your server. An ingest station pulls the data off the hard drive then puts it to that server on the local network

Main speaker setup is now;

 

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

 

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
