Which frickin server?

MojangYang

I have been doing similar posts for ages, and i want a final solution. I am a HPE ProLiant fan. I want to make a Minecraft server/datacenter, and i’m Choosing between those two servers:

the hp server is newer, but much more costy. I wanted to get a dl380 g7 but missed my chances twice

Overkill for just a minecraft server ...

Bare in mind these use alot of power and is really loud.

What are you going to use apart from minecraft server?

They're both overkill for a Minecraft server, if you're biased towards one, then just get it.

I don't have any advice about either of the servers... But isn't $500-$600 is a lot to invest in a minecraft server? I believe you can rent minecraft servers for like $10 a month, can't you? Might be worth considering renting a server instead of buying one (if you haven't already considered it).

That is probably more than enough.

Are you planning to set this up in your home? unless you're going to pay for rack space at a datacenter, you should actually just rent an older server.

What kind of server size are we talking here? Me and my friends used to run a 5-10 people server on what was considered acceptable at best PC hardware back in 2010. I'm talking 8 gigs of RAM at best, while the server owner was playing on that machine

I once gave Luke and Linus pizza.

A standard minecraft server only needs around ~250mbs of rams but this was a long time ago. I remember having only 8Gb of ram and hosting minecraft server with 8 player and there wasn't an issues, it was mainly the internet connection.

How many players? How many mods? You can get away with 1-2GB with around 30-50 average players on pvp server.

Also these draw alot of power if you gonna run it 24/7.

they will both be terrible.

if yo wanna run a minecraft server, get a desktop with a somewhat recent CPU in it, 8-ish GB RAM will be fine, toss some form of linux on it, and call it a day. a €200 2nd hand HP ProDesk will be a better minecraft box than either of those servers.

A standard vanilla server can be run with 1 to 4GB ram for10 people.

It really depends on how you want to play, if you want do things like scicraft (ilmango YT) than you need a server with mor than 8Gigs

I would really recommend renting a server that will be the cheapest for you.

I ve got some proLiant and other 19" servers at home and they use a lot of power, 30 to 60€ per month (35USD to 70USD)

A renting a server with similar performance will cost a fraction of that

Ok everyone... i don’t know how many people i will get playing. I will maybe install about four bukkit anticheats mods on it.

and are both those servers terrible or overkill? They means two different things to me.
