Freezing when oc 1080 ti

Craig Jenkins

Ok hi guys.. i have a strange problem that really bugs me! i have a gigabyte gtx1080 TI Aorus

when im overclocking it. it will just lock my pc and i have to hard rest. iv tired to use the oc scanner from msi as well.

is this a 1080ti thing? iv never had a nivida gpu hard crash because of a bad oc iv had 2 780's and 2 980's in the past. when the oc was bad with them it would just crash the driver.

iv tried upping the Volts and power % etc still the same thing. iv tired reinstalling driver also.

is it a faulty card or just a 1080 ti thing..??

any insite would be good thanks,.

Odd, i have had gpu's cause hard locks but its usually just when the OC is too high. I'd recommend trying manual OC instead of using the scanner. My 1080ti is stable at 2088mhz on core and 5900mhz on memory. I'm pretty sure i can push the memory higher but just haven't played with it a ton. Your mileage may vary

Sounds like an unstable OC. Gigabyte never gets the highest binned chips, so you may just not have a card with any OC'ing headroom

EDIT: For future reference, highest binned chips are either nVidia Founders Edition, Asus ROG, MSI Lightning, or Galax HOF.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)
