Being against racism doesn't mean you're "easily offended". Let's stop pretending that narrative isn't primarily being pushed by people who want to be racist and generally insufferable without consequences. There's nothing inherently wrong with THQ using 8chan if they want to, but what they got in the AMA should have been expected and their choice of site may have alienated some fans who (understandably) don't want to dig through a pile of toxic garbage to read the answers they care about.

Could someone explain the -chan sites to me? Things I heard about, but not dared to look into, probably for the better. Are they that bad? Are there differences?

Imageboards are a thing since...20 years at this point I suppose? I don't remember

It's not like they are "bad" or "evil", it's just because the only rule here is not to post illegal content and respect the kind of content of the board you are in, so everyone can discuss, troll and flamebait easily since everyone is anonymous there, and some people especially the new ones tend to not understand, they could also take advantage on the fact that those people get mad easily, on people they do not know, and will start baiting and eventually get butthurted, you just have to know those sites and understand how you have to deal with it

Depends also on the channel and the board itself, and the people who frequent it, the sfw ones are generally enjoyable (except /v/ lol) like anime boards, mlp, wallpapers should have civil discussions and most important, all the troll baits ignored, so basically nothing happens here, even if things like raids from board to board, board to sites, etc, were common in the past
My opinion here, there is also a specific board especially in 4c I'm not telling here because I don't want you to go in, which is literally crap in every way and form

It's not like that, 8ch lets you create your own imageboard and the owner is the moderator of that specific board, eventually illegal content will be removed by sub-moderators of the 8ch itself

Is hotwheels still the owner of 8ch? There was some drama a while back I didn't follow. Then again 4ch was also bought out recently and I'm not even caught up with that. I've been away from that part of the internet for quite a while,  I don't even know anymore.

Not at all, 8chan is literally the /pol/ hivemind spread to the extreme through every board, almost no moderation as well.

Meanwhile 4chan is getting more and more sfw as years go by since moderation is actually there and hiroyuki wants no drama in order to actually be able to get ad revenue from it.

 

There is a good reason 8chan users call 4chan users cuckchan, because in 8chan you can say whatever the hell you want, the chance of getting banned or moderated by janitors is incredibly low in comparison to 4chan ever since gamergate.

 

If THQ really wanted to do an AMA in an anonymous space then they should had picked 4chan's /v/ instead, not the first time companies and developers do AMA's there, and whenever they do those threads get moderated pretty hard in order to prevent issues like what happened in 8chan to even surface, hell, there have been moments where their threads even got pinned for an AMA, one of the occasions I fondly remember was when /v/ successfully summoned Kamiya for couple hours...

 

They probably thought that 8chan was actually a normie version of 4chan, since 4chan has a terrible name nobody dares to do anything there, unless you don't know the website at all or you're somebody that surfaced from there like Notch, Toby Fox and Hopoo Games...

I understand fighting against racism for the right reasons, but this was just an ama, not something for people to get their panties in a bunch about. The people that blow this out of proportion are not actually trying to fight racism, they're merely posers that are groveling for attention and status. I don't see how it's not true, the sitewide mods do take care of it as soon as possible, the only reason that 4chan hasn't gotten the same treatment is due to Christopher Poole taking a position at google. Reddit also has places where people share cp, but that gets overlooked all too often.

First off, that article is highly outdated, being over 4 years old, and as far as I can tell after searching, all of the blatantly illegal and even questionably legal boards have been terminated. I'll repeat as I said, no public website condones cp. Secondly, "the other ones do it" was an example of how every anonymous forum has things slipping through the cracks due to the nature of the sites, 8chan is no execption. They're just another forum that decides not to censor what isn't illegal, nothing special really.

I don't think that's good evidence to prove that you're right because:

1) That post states that the laws of what is and isn't porn differs from region to region, so it depends on where you're from. Is it child porn to show a child modeling some swimwear? Some say yes, and some say no. I don't think it's entirely fair to claim that images which are in the gray area of legal in some states but illegal in others is child porn.

2) Even some of the examples used in that blog post were deleted, so clearly the mods aren't always asleep or always overlooking things. If a user posts an image and a mod deletes it, would you really claim that's evidence that the site itself condones child porn? If anything, that's evidence that it condemns it.

3) That post is quite old and things can change rapidly.

 

I am not trying to say that you're wrong, but that medium post is not evidence that you're right.

I am not trying to say that you're wrong, but that medium post is not evidence that you're right.

The only issue with it imo are the smallest and the useless boards in there where neither 8ch mods would easily detect posted content in there, where idk who but probably some underaged virgins post ex-gf nudes pictures for example and probably what happened in my country to get it's DNS blocked is some people to report to the police (judges here can decide that and get the DNS blocked even before asking the site)

 

I also remember some cases in the past (2 years ago I think) where people posted that content in apparently harmful and sfw boards, but very active threads in boards like /v/, that used happen also in 4ch but they always been fast in there

Well after all those years only 8ch got it's DNS blocked, not 4ch or other Italian ones

They definitely need more global mods, I don't think they let that content exist by purpose
