All that size... And they only put in a 72WH battery. Look at all that wasted space! They basically went in MS Paint and stretched the chassis. But then just kinda made the internals all fit without stopping to think. They could have crammed a freaking hugegantic battery with what was literally almost half the laptop being hollow

 

And the trackpad looks pitifully sized (especially next to the MBP). And the speakers are still tiny. And so many other smaller things i could nitpick.

 

I was hyped for this device. I saw the press release and immediately put it in the "What should we review next" thread. I wanted it to be the ultimate all day full phat X86 laptop with a screen size actually suitable for multitasking. You failed me LG...

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

A lot of modern 15 inch thin-and-light either has superior graphics (Vega 8/10 or MX150), or dedicated the additional space for bigger battery or better cooling.

Yet Gram 17 does neither of those, and even lacks other features like touchscreen, etc.

In the end it's just an enlarged Gram 13. No more no less.

At this point I think Dell Inspiron 7786, a 17 inch 2-in-1 with the same processor plus an MX150 (albeit without Thunderbolt 3 and High-Res display) is a better and cheaper option. (And it can game!)

 

Also, 100Mbit "Fast" LAN (through provided USB-C dongle) in 2019, really?

Though it can be easily solved with a third party dongle but it's just break the illusion of premium for many people.

I really like this screenshot because of all the complaints about "silly faces" in thumbnails but this shows that Linus just has a silly face.

A 17 inch laptop in 2019 that weighs less than an 8 inch netbook from 2008 - that's progress folks!

 

Seriously though, there are lots to nit pick here. The numpad layout is missing the double wide 0,+ and enter keys which they DID have real estate for. The battery could have been beefier and only add maybe 1/3 pound more to the weight. I'm also questioning the use of graphics hardware because 2560x1600 still requires muscle to push even for a casual Civ V run.

 

But for enjoying movies on the sofa with a good set of cans, a 17 inch IPS display like that is pure luxury. Even for work use you could throw in a modest 100Wh battery bank with it in your gear bag and get 16+ hours of web/office use. This might even be the first 17 notebook that serious mobile road warriors will be interested in, assuming that the build quality holds up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to buy this kind of laptop in Canada, not necessarily this exact spec though, I just can't find a good way to do so.
