WAN Show SCREEN BURN!

fridgebrain

Hi all

As a devout watcher of the WAN show, I've started to notice a problem.

As you are the tech guru's of the world, I'm surprised that you haven't realised that the background of the WAN show could be causing people screen burn.

All you need is some RGB backlighting behind the hexagons and something to break the solid colours up.

Come on Linus, sort this out.

Maybe he's using an OLED screen, those have image burn-in retention. My phone (not an OLED) kinda has this image retention thing too, but that kinda fades away a bit.

So yes, modern screens, those from beyond the plasma days, still have this issue :P

oh damn you're totally right, that slipped my mind

Either way, thats a side effect of getting an oled display today. No way that would be LTT's problem lol

You have a screen that burns in after 1 hour...? What do you do about the start menu in windows?

Watching it through Chromecast on a TV in the dining room, PC monitors are much better panels.

I can kinda see the point behind this but I doubt many would be affected by this.

Even if you watched the whole thing, it shouldn't cause screen burn.

Especially since when using your PC/phone you most likely have the taskbar/clock/notifications in the same place, in the same colour for hours on end, which would be more likely to cause screen burn than the WAN show ever would.

Edit: Nevermind, I take the above statement back. TVs are awful for burn in. I remember my dad's old TV getting burn in from him watching the news frequently. Still backgrounds are a TV's worst nightmare.

That sounded like a great idea until I realized there's always a possibility it can cause screen burn.. It'd be hard (no pun intended) explaining that to visitors :/

Bonus points: through enough repetition, condition yourself to pitch a tent any time you hear Linus talking.

Screen burn/oled ghosting is not going to happen on the span of a single wan show... Unless you're running it at 1% speed OT leaving it paused for days on end, then it's a non-issue

Hands down the most laid back set and probably the most pelasting to watch was this, back when they talked about news topics and then discussed about it and go of tangent but talked about topics first.

I haven't watched the last few WAN shows, but theres a definite break when they run the intro...so that's maybe what? 10-15 mins of the background and then when they do topics they screenshare so that breaks it up again. How are you getting screen burn from 20-30 mins of somewhat static images?

I sort of doubt watching one WAN show is going to do anything, now 20 in a row... maybe...
